I think Houllier would be a great appointment, if not for his record in the transfer market. He really did buy some absolute shit.

35 million on Hesky, Cisse and Diouf.

That was some years ago though, he may have learnt since then. Also in fairness Cisse was one of the most highly rated forwards in Europe and Heskey score 20+ goals in his first season for Liverpool.

Still unsure, but i'll be right behind him.
Seems like a decent bloke with a good character, unlike the snake who managed us previouly

I've been doing a lot of reading on Houllier. It went downhill after his illness, but things were going quite well up to that point. Like Wenger, he put a lot of time into the development of the academy and training ground for the club. The team had done well, but like Benitez he couldn't quite close the gap at the very top despite finishing 2nd a couple of years before his departure. My impression is that naturally football became secondary when you are trying to look after your health. He admits he made some poor decisions during that time. If he's healthy and I'm sure he'll be motivated, he would be good for Villa for a good number of years (he's 63, Fergie is almost 70). His job will be to look after the immediate but as importantly put in place some foundations to provide stability and continuity for years to come.

Like you, he'd have my full support.

As I say I think his motivation to prove a point could make he a fine appointment. I'd be happy with him and I think he could be very good for us.

Well, when you think about it, this HAS to be good for us.
A mature manager who is proven to win things.
It also don't think he will be a 'yes man' that some had feared.
I haven't checked, but I'd guess that L'Pool didn't finish outside the top 4 when he was there ?
And I would imagine he has assurances that money will be available

Nice to see some people failing to give the man a chance.
