Word of caution. It's not official and it is only saying that he has been offered the job.

I agree Villadawg, but if it is the case I think it could be a good one. It would certainly be better than some of the options.

That would indicate he is first choice and unlikely to turn down the chance? If he did, we'd be looking at Curbs!

I think the only reason would be his family do not want to move from France

Yep, look like it's confirmed now. I knew this on Thursday so i'm not really surprised but I think it's a relief now for the manager drama to be over and done with.

He's a big name with a strong reputation, I am not disappointed. I would be more enthusiastic with a Moyes or Magath obviously but Houllier ain't bad. Could be the man to deliver some silverware in the nect couple of seasons as the likes of Young and Gabby approach their peak.

He would have discussed and sorted these issues out before applying for the job.

I'm more pleased with this than the DoF possibility. Still not overly delighted as I feel the club could have showed a bit more nous and vision, and got completely suckered into this 'Premier League experience' myth, but as a short term appointment this could be fine. At least as manager rather than DoF there'll be a bit more clarity of ideas in our team selection and so on.

Can't see there being a DoF if Houllier has been offered the role.

I think of the options likely available Houllier would be a good one. He has won plenty of trophies and hopefully he could bring that to Villa.

Still unsure, but i'll be right behind him.
Seems like a decent bloke with a good character, unlike the snake who managed us previouly

So it looks like it'll be someone who wasn't even an option on our poll. Can he sign Gerrard?
