If you believe the papers, it was Eriksson, who didn't impress.

I reckon club sources have drip fed the press a big pile of bullshit leads and somewhere across town Brian Horton is gathering his generals and trying on his Nike training gear ready for tomorrow's press conference.

Fingers crossed we could still be in for a surprise.  :-X

I'm still hoping for Gerry Francis.  I've had my hair done in his own particular style, as a tribute.

Wasn't it 4 + MacDonald?

My sources suggest it was Cherie Lunghi.

Who are the several future internationals he gave away?

Cahill got his first cap Friday? Arguably there's one there. Do we get any extra cash for that?

yes he did get rid of Cahill,
but in fairnes replaced him with Curtis Davies for 8/10 mill, so good busines there

You're correct, he did get rid of him. However he didn't give him away.

I'd be very happy for Houiller to come in as a director of some sort, with responsibilities for things like the academy, scouting and so forth. There's only one problem: where's the manager?

By appointing Houiller as DoF they'd effectively be giving the responsibilities of management of the team to K Mac. The areas where Houiller would have responsibility - transfers, youth development etc - are areas where K Mac has either not had a chance to prove himself or has proved himself worthy. The areas where he has been shown to be deficient - team selection, top flight tactics, being hard on the players if need be - would be left still under his responsibility. As a result, appointing Houiller as DoF, if it happens, should be seen as entirely irrelevant to our search for a new manager. It would solve none of the problems we had in the Newcastle, Rapid or Everton games and at best would enable us to make some signings in January.

surely if it was houlllier it would have been announced by now , im hoping the delay means there has maybe been a late entrant and we may appoint someone better , but i hope and pray that kev mac does not get the job.

Cahill was neither given away, nor was is he several.

(Not having a go at you Diablo)

No problem SubMariner  - I was just starting the ball rolling - trying to figure out who they were too. Gotta admit I was a bit gutted watching the England match that we had 3 ex Villa players on the pitch Barry, Milner and then Cahill. Then Young came on and I thought  it could well be 4 ex Villa players soon (if all the Spurs thing is true) and we've become the new Westham!!

I just don't buy this DoF stuff. KMac said he loved working with the first team but didn't really enjoy the limelight that came with the manager's position. It makes more sense that Houllier comes in as manager with Kev as first team coach/assistant manager with a view to maybe taking over from Houllier in the future and having the kind of continuity that we lacked when MON walked. If they are both in senior roles then it is just open to criticism and the press would continually bring up the Houllier/Evans Liverpool fiasco.

Although I don't think Houllier would be a bad appointment, I have a feeling this process is going to rumble on for a fair while yet.

We keep hearing people are hot favourites to be appointed, then nothing happens for a few days and they start to   drift.

It is intriguing stuff, but I still think they'll probably appoint soneone out of the blue, someone we have barely mentioned.

You have a point there. But this one does seem to be gathering momentum. Saying certain ppl are being interviewed is one thing to now start saying someone will be appointment in the next few days is a big change (unless of course you've got some inside info.  nudge-nudge, wink-wink)

Given the uninspiring nature of those who have been mentioned I do hope you are right

Guy, our recruitment policy for money spent has been average at best.
If you compare it to Houllier's whilst at Liverpool, MON's purchase history was superb.

If this morning's press stories are correct and we are employing a 63 year old Frenchman with a history of health problems who has been out of club management for nearly four years then I for one am shocked and disappointed.
it would also spell the end of kevin Mac, as any manager worth his salt will not work with an assistant/co-manager that has been forced on them, as borne out by Houllier's joint role with Roy Evans, one of them had to go and it won't be the new guy.
Please let this not be true as if it is I fear we will be entering a real period of decline.
