Curbs hasn't been in a position to win things because he's never had a crack at it with a club of that size, his record in getting charlton up and keeping them in mid table was very good and deserves more respect than some are giving him.
What he did with Charlton was admirable but the expectation level was nothing like what it would be at Villa. Whatever we might now think about MON it's undeniable that he gave the club a higher profile than we've had since Big Ron was in charge. If we appoint Curbs then all that will be lost and we'll go back to being plucky little mid-table Aston Villa, and the chances of us being able to attract any decent players will be slim to none because he simply isn't a big enough personality and his record of achievement is almost non-existant. I don't have a preference for anyone in particular but whoever we appoint just has to be a bigger name than Curbs with a greater track record of success. And if that's Sven, so be it.

Don't understand why everyone seems to hate curbishley.
With limited budget, he did as well as MON and he is not a coward.

He's never won anything. O'Neill has, on an equally limited budget.

I don't hate him, I just think he's very, very shit.

MOst of big players that come to villa were shitty !
They came to enjoy their retirements.

Prefer to get young, good attitude, willing to improve compare to all those primadonas.

Chris I never said if Sven comes it means we will get beckham. , I'm saying it's a possibility he might go for him on a short term loan , as Milan have done in previous years.

I just think Sven would bring excitement to the club and he has a great record as a club manager, he has contacts and would explore the world Market , having managed in 3 continents, he would lift the profile and interest level at the club, and attract good players.

I think most people are saying curbs, kmac, Sven and houllier are on the shortlist but I'd love to know who the 5th candidate is- klinsmann or southgate or koeman maybe?

Right - Looks like Eck and the board are falling out over at the Sty.  I'd take him.  Any thoughts?

I'd take him. He is actually a decent gaffer in spite of his current employers.

Me too - I include the likes of Ash and Milner as big players, even though they were young when we got em. They came to Villa because they wanted to work with and learn from MON. Do ya reckon Curbs would attract the likes of them?

Curbishley gets a massive no from me and I just can't see what the point of him coming here would be. MON leaving us has given the Club an ideal opportunity to kick on to the next level even with the current squad. We need to bring in some quality players to compliment our existing ones and Curbishley wouldn't be able to pull off a fraction of the decent deals which Sven would.

If Curbs decides to read any of these boards to gauge fans' opinions, then he wouldn't take the job. I sure he's a decent bloke who is good at what he does. It's just that we don't need what he's good at.

A decent option but he'd have to walk out on blues pretty fast or it will be too late for him as regards our job.
