Houllier has been mentioned as a possible candidate, wouldn't be too unhappy about that.
This chat about Curbishly is rather alarming though. Koemans record is very hit and miss, would be a gamble in my opinion.
Sven is liable to do anything, could be brilliant, his track record in Italy, Portugal and Citeh and England cannot be argued with. Since England it just hasn't settled down for him. Maybe Randy would need assurances on a long term commitment. He has a huge list of  jobs behind him.

Spoke to a Charlton fan last year about Curbishley, and even he didn't like him!

Similar situation to MON at Villa in that to an outsider looking in he appears to be doing a good job, but in reality a lot of his own fans don't even like him.

Has the paper said he's been interviewed or just that he's spoken to Randy? Could it just be a phone call put in by Curbs asking if he can have an interview?
The board might not see any harm in seeing Curbs because it gives you a better indication of the good and bad contenders. He's middle of the road. Like some people have said here, underwhelming.
I couldnt see Curbishley getting the job over someone like KM, but it does give you a marker.
(i'm trying to convince myself here too by the way LOL!)

Now, this is the sort of manager I was suggesting when saying I would rather give K Mac a chance.
Curbishley is no mug but he's a very limited and very boring individual. He would inspire absolutely nothing in me or, in all likelihood, the team. He would probably be the most "meh" appointment of my Villa supporting life.

I cant believe we would offer him the job. I have a hard time believing we've even interviewed him.

No thanks.

Yet he got them competing far above their natural level, that's just perverse. Not suggesting he's right for us but you'd think based on where they were before he took over and what has happened since they'd have a little more respect.

It might be a spot of revisionism, as I seem to remember him leaving Charlton on distinctly bad terms with the club/fans. Something about broken promise or a lack of loyalty, despite being with them for 20 years. I think it may have been that he misspoke when he pitched up at West Ham, talking about the relative size and ambitions of the clubs.

Paris - maybe houllier waiting then!

Charlton are far far worse off since curbs left no matter what any fans may think of him.

all signs are curbishley now his odds are 2/1 he ticks all the boxes.......

1. played for us
2. manged premiership
3 managed on a limited budget
4. wont have to pay club any fee for poaching

gotta say im gutted if it is him totally backward step and a kop out by lerner completely I just hope the bookies are wrong , yes curbishley was good at charlton but I just cant see him galvanise any players or entice some exciting players to join us or even play attractive football ..... its hard to beleive if its true were getting curbs and out of europe already and spurs who we allways finished above until last yr sign Van der vaart and are in the champs league groups its just fucking depressing !!!!!!

Houllier???

And people moaned about MON's brand of football and signings!!! I know enough Liverpool fans not to want to go there.

This managerial hunt is fast becoming a who's who of potential horror appointments.

The Mail also reckon we're going for the cheap (and shit) option

Aston Villa hold talks with Alan Curbishley
Sep 2 2010 by Mat Kendrick

ALAN Curbishley is on the shortlist to succeed Martin O’Neill as Villa’s next manager and has been interviewed by the claret and blue board.

The former Charlton Athletic and West Ham boss met with the club’s top brass yesterday as Randy Lerner closes in on an appointment.

Curbishley, who played for Villa in the mid-1980s after transferring from Birmingham, has been out of football exactly two years today.

The 52-year-old quit West Ham in September 2008 and has since been linked with several Premier League and Championship vacancies.

He fits Villa’s primary criterion of boasting top-flight managerial experience after around 300 games with Charlton and 60 with the Hammers.

Curbishley is among a handful of contenders being interviewed this week along with Villa’s caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald.

The former midfielder resigned from the Upton Park hot-seat after key players were sold without his permission. He later won a case for constructive dismissal after a ruling that West Ham’s transfer policy contravened the terms of his contract.

Curbishley played 36 games for Villa between 1983 and 1984 after arriving from Blues where he had made 130 appearances. Lerner and chief executive Paul Faulkner have headed up the club’s recruitment panel since the interview process got underway on Monday

For what it's worth:

#AVFC This is NOT confirmed and just the rumour flying around the office. I'm NOT saying it's definite. Houllier.

I remember at the time he left Charlton the general feeling was that the fans felt he took them as far as he could and then what happened aftewards was what they deserved.

However, he did nothing at West Ham to suggest he would be capable of taking on a club battling for top 4/6.

Only solace I could take would be that if you look at Redknapp, he spent years managing at mediocre clubs in the PL and obvioulsy all that experience has stood hiom in good stead...he is no tactical genius.

I realise how fiercely I am clutching.

If he was appointed, it may be time for Randy to admit that he hasn't got the funds to move us forward.
I really think we would look pathetic having him in charge.
