As much as I enjoy watching the football that the reserves play under KMac for several years
I really can't see the guy being the right man for the top job-

He has been content with reserve team management for 14 years at Villa Park, which
would suggest he is in the 'comfort zone' and has found his level (maybe he has applied
for the no.1 jobs in the lower leagues but clearly hasn't been successful) -

The West Ham match apart .........we haven't performed well or controlled any game
whilst KMac has been in charge which could be be put down to team selection and tactics-

An hour before the Everton match I heard (reliable source) that KMac & TMc were returning
to normal duties on the following day, but yesterday KMac threw his hat into the ring -

It appears that some senior members of the squad are backing him to be the No.1 ,
notably the current captain, who in many fans' opinion shouldn't be in the starting line up!

From the outset I voted for Slaven Bilic and the longer this saga has gone on I feel he
could be the man for us. Apart from Klinsmann none of the other rumoured candidates
do anything for me.............I really wish Randy & his team would get on and appoint
without any further delay

I think the majority of Villa fans think the same way, they have a lot of respect for KMac and want him at the club, but not as Manager.

If Randy & Co. appoint him, I think it will be a decision based on lack of alternatives who are in budget and available.

'In budget' is not just his salary package, it also includes the ( I would guess, verbally demonstrable) abililty to manage on a shoestring.

And why would the new manager be managing on a shoestring?

If the decision is to go with Kevin then I think, as has been touched on before, he's going to need a bit of help. It's all very well having the player here like him and being a respected coach, that doesn't prepare you for making the difficult selection decisions, buying and selling players or dealing with the media.
That being the case, it would seem a better idea to leave him as coach, because that's what he is proven to be very good at, and just appoint a manager as normal.

Or that he has impressed in his interview and they feel he is worth nurturing.

My prefernce is for a proven manager, I'm just suggesting what I think should happen if Kevin is their prefered choice although of course I realise that what is said on here has no bearing on their thinking.

Kevin Mac hasn't been appointed yet I know, but if he were to be. There is absolutely no way to justify a reason for employing him over the other managers who would have applied.

Just playing Devil's Advocate, but how can we say that when we don't know who's applied?

And my other beef is this whole application/interview process.  Should we not be deciding who WE want and then going and getting him?

This 'who's applied' thing is a red herring though. the top managers don't apply for posts they wait to be approached. I remember George Graham commenting about a certain job only a few seasons back and the presenter asked whether he was interested in it or had applied. he said that he no longer applies for jobs because his cv speaks for itself. If he is wanted it is for the club to approach him and not the other way round.

He hasn't been linked to a job since Rangers appointed Walter Smith second time round. His cv speaks for itself alright, he is an arrogant crook

That would unemployed George Graham?
Sure managers apply for Jobs. Even some of the best ones.

Out of work managers apply for jobs and in work managers have to be applied for.

By appointing him Randy would just show we are depending on miracles and as he is supposedly omnipresent, why didnt we appoint him years ago? I would ask "where has the money gone" and "Why have we got the only Billionaire who doesn't have any money" and I'd also be a spoilt brat.

At least he's sort the crosses out.
Now I think about it, he's nailed on.
I can just see what wouldhat happen if we appointed him, loads of trouble a slow, steady slump, but then a massive turn around come Easter.

under the previous manager our campaign died around March/easter so I'd expect him to be able to rise the season from the dead. But, i'm not expecting him to turn water into wine he can only work with what he's got. Conversley, I think his dad is even better then him.

and in work managers have to be applied for.

After making it known they would like to be "applied for".

Wasn't there am issue with cloughie at derby where he made it known the villa job interested him but the board said he had to apply and he said he wouldn't apply but would take it if offered to him? There was a stand off and he stayed at derby- the rest is history!

Why? Because he may be told too like MON was.

Shoestring may be a bit harsh, maybe ' acting in the club's best interest' is the way to put it - the PC way to put it.

I think in a game with so many agents and club officials there are plenty of ways of making it clear you're interested in jobs without formally applying for them.

The beer and wine sales would slump.  People would only need to bring in flasks of water.
