What other job would Kevin McDonald be considered for in the EPL? would be a nonsensical appointment.

Carlos Queiroz is coming to the Villa....I hope

He has taken a hospital pass off O'Neill and he has the right not to spunk millions on a quick fix.

How convenient.

No, not really. I'm sure we all have better things to do than start the season in the shit.

There has been absolutely nothing at all to suggest transfer investment has been "cut off completely", though, nothing at all.

Well, other than the fact that we haven't spent anything this summer and have made a £20m profit. I'm not suggesting that was their intention all along but I'm sure they're not that upset by the chance to take a breather.

As most of us have said from the start, what they do next will show everything about their current and future ambitions. The statement on Sunday was encouraging, they now need to walk the walk.

There has been absolutely nothing at all to suggest transfer investment has been "cut off completely", though, nothing at all.  In fact, far from it, everything the club has said has pointed to the opposite of this.

Unfortunately, what will happen now, with the window closed, nothing spent, and no manager appointed, is that people will suggest it was timed to rule out transfer spending. Whether there's any truth in that won't actually matter, because people are still going to make the accusation, and that's where the damage is done.

Being asked to reign in the spending / cut the wage bill for one season, for example, doesn't really strike me as anything out of the ordinary. There is only one manager in the league who can engage in unfettered spending, and that's Mancini. Managing the squad in terms of ins and outs, within the constraints of a budget, is surely one of the key parts of running a football club - for both the chairman and the manager.

My issue is not with what they have said, but rather with what they have done, which is cut wages and made a transfer profit.  Now, we can blame that on the timing of MON's departure if you like, but it's what happens from here that will decide whether that's right or not.  And IMO appointing a manager like K-Mac does point towards a lack of available funds.

I completely agree with your last paragraph, but again have we had a window where we've taken one step backwards in order to take two forward or a sign of thing to come?

I'm not trying to criticise Randy, but I am questioning him.  A question he will go a long way to answering by who our next manager is.  Ultimately I think 01/09/11 is the point at which we'll know for sure!

I'm in agreement with Chris. If they appoint a decent long term boss, then the lack of transfer activity this summer is a legitimate casualty of the need to get the appointment right. If after all this time they appoint KM, then not only will it be the half arsed budget option, it'll also leave the unshakable feeling that they've left it this long so as not to spend any money. I'm hoping for the former option, obviously.

So we've all decided that K Mac is incapable of managing Villa then?

When did we decide that and based on what?

He isn't totally incapable, I just don't think he'll be very good at it. Based on the fact he has no experience and the dreadful performances in most of our games under him so far, and the fact that it's taken him til now to even decide if he wants a crack at it.

Has anyone got the latest odds please?

I'm considering a lunch time visit to the bookies.

From the club statement

Two of the traits we believe are of crucial importance are that candidates have experience of managing in the Premier League

MacDonald hasn't got that.

3 games is not experience.

Kevin Mac hasn't been appointed yet I know, but if he were to be. There is absolutely no way to justify a reason for employing him over the other managers who would have applied.

Mazrim, you cannot seriously say that after all that's happened you would be happy with Mac? Of course he would be supported by everyone but at the back of peoples minds would be that it took the board a month to decide that he was the best that they could get.

No, I want Guus Hiddink. But I dont know how good or bad K Mac will be before he has a crack at it. If he does.
