I think K-Mac's biggest asset is also his biggest problem.
He's had to (for want of a better phrase) put his arm around a lot of MON-rejects and get them to perform for him. The players seem to really like him. And that's a problem because you can't have a 'mate' as a boss.

The reason some of the players make positive noises about Macdonald is that he represents continuity for them. They don't have to work as hard prove themselves to a new manager with all the uncertainty that goes with it. If I was Lerner, the moment I heard those comments would be the moment I ruled him out.

Indeed. As soon as Petrov said that he would like Kev to get the job because all the players liked him, I knew he would not be a suitable first team Manager. The job he does so well for the Reserves is more of a nuturing role and ideal for him.

It's clear that MON lost the respect of much of the dressing room in recent months partly due to poor communication, but his management style had always been to keep the players at arms length and to be very careful about what he said to them when he did engage them. This is a style he learned from Clough, but seemed to lose the ability to think rationally with it.

A manager needs the players' respect, and that won't happen if they get too pally. A manager also needs to be distant enough from players to be able to drop them when they aren't playing well. I also think that a Koemann or Klinsmann would immediately have the respect of players due to what they achieved on the pitch however it would be interesting to know what their man management approach would be. If that's not appropriate then you can understand why ex-players don't always make good managers.

If Kmac is appointed I will seruously doubt Randy's ambition.

If Sven is appointed, we may as well pack in now.

Of that list there are only 3 maybe 4,  I would even consider fit for the job. Moyes and Jol obviously. Sven for past achievements and maybe as a dark horse Tony Pulis who has done a good job at Stoke, but could he improve on it at the Villa. How have Bruce, McCarthy and Pearce got onto that list?

From that list, only Sven could improve things in my view. I can't believe that some of these managers make anybody's list, including a spoof one like this.

Given the promise of some stability and a long term plan, SGE could do a very good job with us and would bring variety and a new style of play. He did pretty well at Citeh, considering the mad house that was - I know a couple of Citeh fans and they all thought he was hard done by.
