New poster, lifelong fan, first went 1965. Went theough the pain and the glory. Lived on Aston Lane as a kid, then Bromsgrove and now live in USA. I have no inside knowledge but I read the statement very carefully.

sorry guys but i think we need look no further then Sven...

he has respect from all who has worked with him, Beckham said the other day that he and Ferguson are the 2 best managers he has worked with, he brings the best out of players and i for one would be over the moon...

see below my reasons....

1st club (1978) - Degerfors - 1st year won championship and gained promotion

2nd club (1979 - 1982) - Göteborg - won the treble including the uefa cup in 1982.

3rd club (1982 - 1985) -  Benfica - won the double league and cup and finalists in eufa cup.

4th club (1985 - 1986) - Roma - won copa italia 1986

5th club (1986 - 1987) - Fiorentina - his first only trophy less club

6th club - (1988 - 1992) - Benfica -  winning the league again and getting to the final of the european cup in 1991

7th club - (1992 - 1994) - Sampdoria - won italia cup again

8th Club - (1997 - 2001) - Lazio - Eriksson amassed trophies on a remarkable scale, and because of this many fans consider him to be Lazio's most successful manager ever, this included the european cup the super cup, the cup winner cup, the league and the italia cup.

9th Club - (2007 - 2008) - Man City - 1st Man City Manager to win both Manchester derby's and finished the highes the club had finished in decades! when he was due to get the sack the players all said that they would be willing to strike if this was the case. the fans even introdues an SOS (save our Sven) and tickets sales had dropped massivly in support for the super swede...

so there u have it guys, he is well worth the job in my opinion and what i think is if he gets the job we should all get behind him...

Sven for Villa is a YES from me.

The General has said that the man needs to know the Premier League but not necessarily to have managed in the Premier League, despite Faulkner's statement (it's perfectly possible that Faulkner's statement was an accidental misnomer). This makes me slightly more optimistic. However, if it is one from the Premier League merry-go-round then I will be really disappointed.

I'm interested in the General's remark about buying into "what it means to wear the claret and blue". You could take that to mean simply that it has to be someone with connections to the club, or maybe to mean someone who knows the history of the game, respects its traditions and is perhaps seen as having a more enlightened ethos than is normally associated with 21st century football. Obviously the second would seem to fit in with what we know Randy and others have said about their vision for the club but, modern football being what it is, such men are hard to find. Roy Hodgson would be an example. I'd perhaps say Klinsmann too, because he appears to be a thoughtful and intelligent individual; he's come a long way from being the guy who was reviled for his diving.

I agree, Hilts. Reading Klinsmann's comments, he's certainly someone who buys into the idea of long-term building, and certainly comes across as a very respectful man. Hodgson as well, but of course he's unattainable. They really are rare: the likes of Ferguson and Wenger are exceptions rather than examples.

Sven's best days are long behind him I reckon, he's best avoided.

It would be seriously awful if Sven was appointed.

Kilnsmann would be a very interesting choice.

Theteam meanwhile seem to be backing Kev; is that becuse he's a nice guy, and wouldn't dish out the bollockings ?

Only Prem experience is a bit too narrow minded in my opinion.

Kevin Mac just doesn't inspire me with confidence as our manager. I think he would need to have proven himself somewhere first. He seems so relaxed and quiet that I can't imagine him getting the best out of a team.

That said, he did well yesterday.

Jurgen or Sven would both be good choices- high profile and lots of contacts , both managed at high level and both know the premiership.

We've got a lot of women working at the Villa at the moment. Sven would probably be a distraction for them and cause too much unrest if they fought for his attention!

I'd like Klinnsmann, I think he appears eloquent and thoughtful and I think he'd be good at building the team.
