There is a huge amount of chat on the Boro message boards that Southgate is in. Not sure I believe it mind.
Nah, won't happen. Can't happen. Probably will happen.  :-\ :o

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Southgate was our next manager.  Disappointed but not surprised.

Get Dave Jones in from Cardiff, he has done well with them and could do a good job with us.

I like him and have great respect for the way he's handled himself several times now in difficult situations including at Cardiff. He does though strike me as a nearly man. Always coming close but rarely achieving.
He would, like Southgate even McClaren be a fallback option but not the manager we should get if RL really is doing as the General says.

How about Mick McCarthy? He was excellent last season for Wolves.

I might be hung for saying this, but the noses have a good manger who has not yet signed a contact.

think we are seeing the difference between reserve team and first teat football in KMac....the reality is the reserves is not about results its about blooding youngsters and getting performances and you rarely see any team really go for it.

I was one of those suckered in after the West Ham game into giving it to him for the season however the fact that he couldnt see that the left hand side of our defence was hopeless for the entire 2nd half and left it alone makes him as inept at substitutions as MON was for me.

very good point. Plus, those playing for the reserves have a point to prove to try and make the step up to the first team, so probably not as much motivation required.

Southgate? Jones? McCarthy? Is this how far we've fallen that people see them as realistic options?

It's really sad, but those of us who suspected he might not have the mentality for when things go against him are unfortunately being proved right, and sooner than we thought. Nothing would have made me more happy then to be proved wrong and for K Mac to have made it - it would have been a wonderful example of continuity and stability, as well as the depth of talent within our club, not to mention the pleasure of having someone who really knows and cares about the club in charge, like Guardiola or Bob Paisley. Sadly K Mac, for all his indisputable qualities (and I still firmly believe he should be a significant figure in the coaching set-up) doesn't appear to have the mindset necessary for this job.

Last night when I was watching the build up to the game they went through the candidates and they said that we would welcome Southgate back as he's a former holte end hero, I spat my beer across the room.

Jesus man

NO way no way.

We need someone quality

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joachim_L%C3%B6w

("In August 2010, Löw was rumored to be a candidate to fill the vacant managers position at English premier league team, Aston Villa.")

Joachim Loew anyone?   Have not seem him mentioned before on here....  If he could bring the flair of Germany's WC team to us, I would be happy.   He did OK managing in Austria apparently - If he was a voting option on here, he would get my 'tick' - Would he come?    Who knows.

In answer to the thread title we had better find the bugger quickly and it had better be someone that inspires the players because they currently need a good kick up the arse and a bit of direction.

I'd agree and you are man enough to admit your error of judgement unlike many. He looked out of his depth for me in the first leg and has done nothing to change my view. In a way its sad, I just hope he's man enough to admit it and stand down, the 2 weeks without a game gives some breathing space.

Paul Lambert, anyone?

I think he needs a season with Norwich in the Championship.

To be honest once the players are on the pitch there is not much you can you, it's not a computer game where you can choose where your players pass to. I seriously doubt jumping around shouting has much effect on the game.

Yes and no, you are closer to the actioon and can get messages across. Just sitting their resting on the dugout frame sends out the wrong message IMO.
