Before the game, you'd have struggled to get evens on MacDonald being the next manager.  Now he's up to 7-1 on some sites.

I would condone K-Mac as his number two - despite today - as he seems to have a good understanding of what the reserves and youth can/can't provide.  Hopefully Klinsmann's many contacts around the globe will mean that a few crucial signings can take place too in the future.

So would I.

Being a good coach and being a good manager are two entirely different things, and football is littered with examples of this - coaches who do very well for a long period, then become managers and fall on their arses.

KM has not become a bad coach on the back of one bad result. I would like to see a Klinsmann / McDonald partnership. I think it could just work very well

We would'nt have lost 6-0 to that lot today under MON, but its time to move on.The next appointment will prove MON right or wrong. An appointment like Bradley or McDonald, then he was right we have no ambition, an appointment like Jol/MoyesHiddink or Hughes, then Randy still has the appetite.

Mon has gone, it was'nt his fault we lost today, and it was'nt his leaving why we won last week, we need to know where we are and act accordingly. If Bradley or McDonald are appointed though, i would'nt be surprised if Ashley wants to go.

I actually expected Villa to lose today. MON had Villa playing sophisticated hoofball. All that Newcastle did while in the Championship was defend against it week in week out. The only way the were going to beat Newcastle was by out-passing them like ManU did last week. Mac chose the wrong tactics and when they failed, he didn't  have a plan B.

This game is just going to start the whole manager make-believe news stuff all over again.

My heart wanted KM to be our next manager.  The West Ham result gave us all a left great.  The draw at Rapid was pretty respectable with the kids. So far so good for the heart.   But today left me thinking you cannot play with 5 attacking midfielders and then when you are 3.0 down bring on EH rather than Fonz. So what now for KM?  There are no real gems on the market to take the job. I just hope in the meantime that KM can learn from today and keep us going.

I am feeling very low and cynical today. Are we waiting until the window closes to appoint a manager?

I would be disappointed if the board does not want to keep pushing. However, why communicate with the fans that Champions League is still the aim?

We are letting a coach run the team. He is doing ok and I don't totally blame him. The board have been poor on this for a couple of reasons

1) I would have hoped that we had a list in place back in May when the chairman/manager relationship was strained.

2) K-mac is being asked to spread him self on the coaching side very thinly. We have only 3 or 4 coaches available at the club. This is ok for a very short period. So we either need to get extra coaches in, or appoint a new manager and coaching staff asap.

3)K-Mac is being put up as the voice of the club. He is so uncomfortable with the media. Where is Lerner? Where is Faulkner more to the point? This club at this time needs leadership from the top.

This needs sorting now. I am starting to think that the ambition of the club has changed. Maybe MON leaving has given the club a scapegoat for not investing.

I am sure that I am being cynical because of the result. But that performance was awful and being an NFL fan, I am nervous of us turning into the Browns!

Wasn't Klinnsmann accused of having his teams too attack minded and not enough consideration given to the defence? After today, we need to make sure we don't go down the Kevin Keegan route of playing without a defence.

I think that this is going to have to be sorted very soon, but I know that it is very tricky. The list of seemingly possible candidates isn't massively inspiring, is it? As much as like the guy, I really don't think that Kevin MacDonald would be the right move, either - I'm just a little sceptical when players 'talk up' how great/friendly/etc the coach is. I think the manager has to have a little more authority, a strong, definite presence (for want of a better word) and today (I know it's only one game) we seemed to lack that on and off the pitch.
The sooner Randy can make an appointment, the best candidate possible of course, then the better. We might not all agree with whoever he chooses, but I do think the team needs definite, clear leadership, and fast.

I do not think that the club have a short list or have any idea what to do tbh, Faulkner looked lost  & lonely today at St.James Park

Here's another fact.

He left us. We didn't sack him. He left us, and he did it just before the season started, ie at the worst possible time.
