The 47-year-old has an impressive CV as a manager after winning three Eredivisie titles while also claiming the Copa del Rey during his time in Spain.

Despite what I said about KM above, that's actually pretty decent!

Doesn't winning the Copa Del Rey carry about as much importance as  the Watneys Cup, though?

Must admit I don't follow it all that closely, so quite possibly.  But then if had won nothing outside of Holland would we not be using that as an argument as to why we shouldn't get the job?

Personally, I'd be in two minds about Koeman.  Which to be honest I am about all the realistic candidates, except Martin Jol.

Looking at his record Koeman would be a bad move, seems like he did ok in his early managerial years but looks like damaged goods now. I don't think Mr Lerner would be so silly. I'd rather go with Maradona than Koeman!

God no and 1000x no. He was a bloody disaster at AZ and managed to take a team that had previously won the title to around 5th place before he was given the boot.

Pellegrini is obviously a good coach but I cant help think of Juande Ramos at Spurs.

Yes I know he won a cup for them etc etc but that was Jols team.

Is there anyway Pellegrini would become Villa manager or are people just saying his name if they had a choice of anybody?

Why wouldn't he? Doesn't sound like he's inundated with job offers at the moment, and considering he was interested in the Liverpool job, that means that he wouldn't mind managing in England.

Trying to keep up with this in the sweltering heat in Portugal on an iPod is quite difficult, however, has anyone mentioned rijkard?

There's something about Rijkard that I don't trust. Don't think he'd cut it in England for some reason.

I asked the same question a while ago and he's recently gone to manage Galatasary in Turkey.

Very big agree here. He sounds very like MON, picking up 19 out of 39 points at the back end of one season!

Another factor that comes into play re Kev Mac: If we appoint him we're pretty much nailing our colours to the mast and writing this season off as a season of transition.

On the one hand, that might be OK as it will give the younger players that he knows well a chance to cement a place in the side.

On the other, a season of transition -finishing anywhere between say 7th-12th- will most likely mean that Ash will be off. For all the positive noises the players are making at the moment, It will look like we've settled, and ambitious types always want to push on and improve.

I could live with the Barry deal, the Milner deal makes good business sense. But losing one of our best players for a third year in a row would be a bit much to take. A big appointment will indicate that we still mean business, and if someone with MON's well documented limitations can get us to 6th relatively easily a better calibre of manager can maybe take the thing on further.

How can you trust a man who spits in another mans perm?

Rubbish, he's a very phlegmatic character.
