Radio 5Live interviewed Sven this morning - he sounded right miffed -apparently NO contact
between him and Villa (which would appear to rule him out)

Minutes later they spoke to Phil Brown, who I know for a fact was at match yesterday........
he is keen to get back into management and would guess has submitted his cv along with
a few others to Randy

Sunday Mercury headline claims Maradonna is interested (yes its the Mercury at it again)

Made me Snigger...

Jol was harshly dealt with by Spudz...got them to 5th just shy of CL place and then got bombed...took them how many years to get back up there with Harry and his cheque book...?

not convinced by jol i must say.  like him but villa manager? nah. don't know why if i'm honest

You mean you'd have another reason to moan and not go down the match? Well colour me surprised.

Perhaps he's asking them if they have a spare Huntelaar that he could take off their hands.

To me Martin Jol is the stand out candidate from all those touted now that Moyes has ruled himself out.

I hope he's not grabbing some family time around the lakes. It is hell up there this time of year.

Jol is the safe-ish option, but his pedigree is not actually that great.

Some of his buys were awful at Spurs. We need someone with a pretty hot hit rate in the market.

Hmm - this may be an omen.

I had a dream/nightmare last night that the new manager was Alan Irvine...

Wasn't the problem at Spurs that he didn't have control about who they brought?

Someone was telling me firdsy night that Jol had been interviews a while back and he mentioned Aston villa. He was there Rotterdam 82. Got a ticket to the final and watched the villa boys lift the cup with the villa fans. So apparently he has always held a soft spot for Aston villa.

I really don't know if this story is true, I can't find anything on it, but my mate said he read the interview a good year or so ago.

Teemo Tanio springs to mind immediately

Paul Saltieri was pretty awful too when there. Zakora was poor too.

However, having gone and had a good look online at who he did sign, there were some corkers - Berbatov being the most obvious. Trouble is a couple of his better signings did not come into their own until he had gone. Bale being the most obvious. Befinately a value for money man on signings though with most young and saleable.

I think the value for Money signings have been a Tottenham trait for several years. They just don't all work out (Bostock, Naughton, Walker, Etherington and his mate). Tbf Bale has now come into his own as a winger but I think most on here were saying that after watching his attacking prowess combined with his shit defending over the last few years.
