Steve Coppell has quit as Bristol City manager. You don't think...

Stop press!

The Germans have just crossed the Polish border.

Just had a quick look at the odds, they're all over the place. Hilariously, K. Mac has gone whooshing up to third favourite on the basis of that Guardian report that says we may take a little time in appointing the new manager, leaving him in charge for longer. They obviously think we're about to do a Sbragia. Southgate has also gone up, mysteriously.

I've just put a ton on Southgate.

In the 3:30 at Kempton.

The Sven as favourite worries me. But I can't help shaking the feeling that despite turning this place into a circus (at least initially), he'd probably do a good job. After all the guy as mentioned, has contacts, and knows quality when he sees it. If he bought a few players like Elano over here, I'd be happy. A bit of mercurial flair that we've lacked in recent years. I wouldn't mind a pain in the ass player like that, capable of brilliance when in the mood.

I also think Sven knows the English game very well so would not be adverse to signing English talent. Plus did he do a bad job for England? To be fair to him, we were always a little unlucky. He started off brilliantly, and 2002 was certainly unfortunate. He lost it in towards the end, but still, 3 quarter finals probably isn't to be sniffed at given the level of quality we actually have.

Dear god, I'm actually warming to the idea of Sven. He got the shaft at City when the place just went crazy after half a season and Frank ended up being dodgy. But they started off flying that year and looked very good indeed.

He's become a bit of a caricature, but he'd certainly be a big name and could attract big players. Only thing is...he might keep Emile  >:(

I agree SuperTom. He wouldn't be my first choice but you know for the time he is around it will be interesting. We'd always be competitive and he has hundreds of friends around the world that would help with player assessments and transfers. We'd go from a very conservative look at transfers to one where we could be signing a player from just about anywhere.

Bradley: Team Manager
Coppell: Director of Football

Yes, the odds of it happening are insanely low, but if it does happen, I called it.

Wouldn't mind Sven so long as his off field antics didn't come with him. Bit of a mercenary but a good club track record, wasn't as bad a painted for England (imo) and who knows, he might even shop abroad !!

Still Jol for me though if Huddink is a no go...

Coppell is a serial quitter no thanks,

I see Mc Leish did not exactly dismiss the Villa job, he even had a glint in his eye!

I would be comfortable with Sven and think that the players would react in a positive way towards him. Let's face it, some of our more talented players must be desperate to play some good football after last season's mediocre stuff and Sven would encourage that - no more pointless hoof balls towards the big guy!!

He could just provide us with much of what many people have been asking for - astute tactics, players utilised propery, interesting foreign signings and if he get's the squad playing anywhere near it's potential will do very well. In my view, better experience than Jol too.

And, he's got a point to prove and this would be his last shot.

Ah. Let me enlighten you into a certain facet of McLeish's personality. Managed Motherwell; Walked out to manage Hibs; Walked out to manager Rangers. Managed Scotland; Walked out to manager Blues.

Every time he gets offered a bigger job he's off so quick you don't even notice the door move.

Old birdeye doesn't have any suggestions. He just likes to put down the ones others bring forward.

Watch now, he'll suggest a Guardiola and Mourinho double team to take us to untold glories.
