It's not just that we can't sell them we also have the same problem as Man City ,the player's are on huge wages and other clubs won't pay it ..just look at Luke Young he was asked to take a pay cut at 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' and said no.

Then you have the NRC,Carew  and Sidwell who can both leave for nothing next season.Davies who if he plays again in the league will get an automatic pay rise and Heskey on 60k a week.No wonder we can't sell them. Also it seems Shorey left on the cheap as well.

So, not one single person has voted for Curbishley, even as a laugh!

The thought's too sad to even laugh at.

I meant to ask, is the vote intended as who we want or who we think it will be?

It's very difficult to take seriously anyone who thinks Mark Hughes would've been a good choice.

For me the 1 silver lining of MoN leaving so close to the start of the season is that at least Hughes already has a job so it's a very outside chance we'll get him.

He had 1 good season with Blackburn when Santa Cruz was immense (but even then never achieved anything spectacular) and then made a very expensive man city squad look like a bunch of cloggers for a few months before the sheikhs realised he was useless and got rid.

I don't see Jol as the outstanding candidate either, but he'd be a good choice from the 2nd tier, on a similar level to MoN but might just do that something different with the squad to push us on.
For me,it's hard to take anyone seriously who think the sheiks opinions are worthy of any credibilty.

Hughes had 3 good seasons with Blackburn & was on course to taking Man City to their highest ever league placing (beating the previous highest place that he had achived the season before)

They own the club so their opinion is the only important one in that case.

He was on course to taking them to their highest finish having spent 3x the money of any other club in the country.  I'm afraid that had to be the minimum expectation.  The reality is they were nowhere near the champions league under him and the squad they had should have been.

For Blackburn he did pretty well but they never looked more than midtable with the odd run at europe, and the side he left behind were pretty poor.

Aside from that look at the type of signings he made at Man City (not the ones the owners made for him)  people like Barry and Bellamy, i.e. exactly the type of signings MoN has made.  He would be a terrible choice because we need a manager to bring something new now, particularly if the money is tight so someone who'd bring something new on the training ground.  No one can argue that Hughes is the right person to do that.

Add Hiddink to the list, then I'll vote for him.

I have not tried to present a case for an outstanding candidate-he is the best of a very bad bunch although I'm not sure why you seem to think that Fulham being based in London is an added attraction?

If you are trying to suggest that MON was anything but cautious (something he openly admits himself) then you must have been walking around with a blindfold on for the past 4 years.

The heart of this affair is the fact that MON has spent so much money on dross that up to now look like they can't be given away-Their weekly wage is frightening.

You asked the question if Jol could do any more for us than he did at Spurs-He got them to 5th,two seasons running which is more than MON has done for us-I think most Villa fans would settle for 5th at this moment in time.

For foreign managers London IS a big pull, it is simply one of the great International cities of the world.
Over the past four years I have spotted three top six finishes, despite having the seventh highest revenues, that is hardly evidence of caution.

MON has spent a lot of money on a team that has over performed in relation to resources. Yes he has made mistakes, as all managers do, it comes with the territory. And the closer you get to the Top Four, without being in it, the harder it is to secure players who will improve the team. The wage bill is “the price of fish”.

Jol got two 5th place finishes pre Man City’s Arab phase with which we cannot compete, which would leave us 6th – which is where Mon got us.

It's very difficult to take seriously anyone who thinks Mark Hughes would've been a good choice.
Hughes had one of the most distinguished playing careers of his generation with invaluable experience abroad at Barca, and Bayern. He did a decent job at Wales, Blackburn and Man City.

It is difficult to take seriously anyone who fails to acknowledge that.

You lost me saying he did a decent job for wales.

To simplify the argument, we'd have to pay millions to release him from his contract which is money that needs to be used on the pitch, so the whole debate about him is utterly pointless.

That he plays very similar football to MoN and therefore would do nothing to move us forward becomes abitrary after that.

this is going to sound crazy, but the wanker with the brolly is making a bit of name for himself on the continent. If he does well at Wolfsburg don't be surprised he gets a decent job back home in the next few years. Too soon to be seriously linked to us though and he wouldn't be popular.

I have no idea who it will be, but we need play a better brand of football at home to get people interested again. Season ticket sales are in the toilet so the club has to drive interest again. Give me someone with some credentials that can see us through until January and then be allowed to rebuild properly. The players we have now are good enough to handle themselves against the majority of the PL.

Bradley swiftly became one of the bookmakers' favourites for the job at the English Premier League club following Martin O'Neill's resignation from the post on Monday.

Asked about the Villa speculation, Bradley, whose contract with the US Soccer Federation runs out in December, told a news conference ahead of his team's friendly with Brazil, that he would love to work in Europe.

"I have said over and over as well that I am always excited about new and different challenges. Certainly coaching in Europe at some point is something that I would love to do," he said.

Anyone mentioned Bruce yet? He's no worse than some of the names on that list.

Billic? Bradley? Martin fucking Jol? Give Macdonald a go? For crying out loud.

I hope the MON out brigade are happy now. Look, you've got what you wanted.

Yet, we appear to be all at sea all of a sudden. Funny that.

We've just lost the best manager we could ever hope to have.

According to various journalists, the "MON out brigade" who are "happy now" includes half the first team squad.
