  I think the positives of Sven are thus;

- Successful club manager, relatively speaking. Certainly more successful a boss than we’ve had appointed in many a year
- Large knowledge of the European market
- Plays relatively good football
- A big name
- He knows the English game well

The negatives for me are;

- Lack of training ground discipline

I agree with three of the positives, but I can't agree about the 'good football' aspect. He comes from a school in Sweden which is very influenced by the traditional English game - very efficient, pragmatic, defensive 4-4-2 and playing on the counter-attack - in short, what we've just had. I'd add that to the list of negatives.

Mark, how is Sven thought of in Portugal after his time with Benfica? I realise this was a while ago...
They love him but as you said, it was years ago. He still has a house over here but he's never made the shortlist of new managers at Benfica and their merchandising sales are greater than our total turnover, I think they just think they can find somebody just as good for less than half the price.

Let's face it, we're unlikely to be paying anybody more than the £3m we paid Moanin' O'Neill, so I doubt Sven would want the job (salary) which can only be a good think.

At least he wouldn't be weighed down by the burden of expectation.

So appoint him and then a bastard of a coach to keep the boys on their toes.

From what I gather Sven is a pretty hands on manager on the training ground, but a bit soft, so a nasty bastard as his assistant to scare the shit out of any lollygaggers would be fine by me.

I got a text early this morning saying he'd been in BHX. One or two others got it as well it seems.

Didn't hang about then Maz -

Have to agree - discipline is the one thing that the assistant/ copaching team can give.

I was sure he played 4-5-1 a lot at City with a striker dropped deep.

Will the supporters respect Sven though? there'll be very little honeymoon period for him I imagine. He seems to be quite an opportunist - only last month he was saying what a lifelong Liverpool fan he is, just as the Scouse job was up for grabs. He seems to follow the money and I wonder how much loyalty he would show us if another job came up.

I don't like him, don't trust him and I wouldn't want him in charge of Randy's money.

maybe you could say the same about O'Neill.

The thought of having Svenis in charge of my Villa makes me feel a bit shit

I would hope that we had at least approached, and were turned down by, better managers than Sven, if we do end up appointing him.  I wouldn't like to think that Sven was the limit of Randy's ambition.

I could live with it if he was genuinely the best we could do but I'd hope we'd exhausted all other possibilities first.

It was a 4-2-2-1-1, really, and still defensive and counter-attacky.
