Yes, but we knew that MON would leave it late anyway, as he has always done at Leicester and Celtic before us. This summer was different. There was so much talk of no money to spend. That Milner had to be sold to generate funds to use. We had that statement from MON saying he wouldn't be rushed and he preferred to leave it late. Nobody can deny that this summer was a complete shambles from top to bottom.

This summer was also a little different in that it was a world cup year, too, which slowed things down.

The only talk of "no money to spend" was from journalists, and people on here. The message from the board was different. I know who I believe.

We all knew he liked to leave it until near the end of the window, but there was no hint whatsoever that we would be making signings this summer.
You obviously missed the collective sigh of relief on here when we failed to sign Aiden McGready.

No, I didn't miss it, as the feeling amongst fan was collective on almost all forums.

The refusal of the board to let him shake hot white coconuts from the long veiny tree, £18m style, on Keane and McGready, was a large factor in him walking out.
Both also wanted huge wages.

What happened to this afternoon's press conference?
Ran out of baguettes and snail porridge at Bodymoor Heath, Heston Bluemantile has been informed and is organising some for tomorrow.

Houllier unveiled this Thursday at Aston Villa?

Aston Villa hope to confirm the arrival of Gérard Houllier from tomorrow, stemming from a forthcoming meeting between himself and the French Football Federation president Fernand Duchaussoy, which the former will confirm his desire to return to the English Permier League, six years after his departure from Liverpool. Of course, "nothing is finished yet", as Houllier himself said in Le Parisien [Monday last], but if everything goes to plan, like the Birmingham club wishes to do, the Frenchman will be presented to the British press this Thursday at Villa Park. The club have told a few journalists to keep this Thursday free "in case"

"In case", which means its not 100% certain in the eyes of one British bookmaker (well known- and well-respected), who are astonished at the slow pace of the operation, and are placing a hefty wage on a different outcome. According to the latest information that [France Football] have received, this bookmaker has a big chance of being disappointed.

it is exactly the quality of the manager that the ex-Lyon coach would be hired, but his assistant would be the current coach of the Villans, Kevin McDonald, than Phil Thompson, which had that role at Liverpool

[France Football]

With comments along the lines of "good riddance" and "good for French football, lets get rid of the other directors still there"

I heard he was allowed to sign Dunne, Collins and Warnock last year on the promise that he would sell the deadwood on high wages in January.

A press conference at Aston Villa is already ready

In Birmingham, one said, everything is in place in order to present a press conference at the club, as early as Gerard Houllier would inform inperson the president of the FFF of his decision. According to our information, Fernand Duchaussoy, which was present at the Bleus win over Bosnia (2-0) last Tuesday night in Sarajevo, has landed at Paris-Bourget, before lunchtime, his schedule would lead him immediately towards the north of France, but Duchaussoy would apparently head towards FFF headquarters to meet Houllier.

Houllier's contract will be for 3 years

Confirmation of houllier's departure from France towards England is now only a question of time. The length of the contract isnt' tow but three years, as to his assistant, we're hearing more and more of Gary McAllister or Dietmar Hamann, two ex-Liverpool players of which he has a close relationship. The presentation of the new manager to the press, planned for Thursday, could be delayed by 24 hours (Friday), in order to co-incide with a press meeting for the Villa-Stoke game on Monday. With, almost certainty, a certain Gerard Houllier in the away dugout.

I'd quite like this to go through now, so that Gerard can start the hard work.

So what does Dietmar Hamann have that Kevin Mac. doesn't have - other than about 14 years less as a coach.  Likewise, Gary McAllister - great player, seems like a reasonable bloke but didn't exactly pull up many trees in his earlier spell in management.  So why are these two in the frame to support Houllier.

Developing an extensive youth scheme that stretches farther than our current one and plays a more prominent part in future structure of the first team squad is a must if we are to progress.  The person to lead this would have a leading role in the club management team and, surely, Kev Mac is the ideal person for this.

Delayed until Friday? This is getting ridiculous.
