Sounds to me that he's not hopeful of selling many of them and has decided to at least re-intigrate them into the squad. Certainly a change- from around the end of the season where he basicially said they weren't good enough

Did he actually say they were not good enough or that they had to try harder to get back in the team.  Of course, forgetting and perceived favouritism the manager has for certain players.

well no manager will usually say "your not good enough" in public, but the way he said they could have no complaints to not playing a bit more sort of spelled it out for me.

Slightly off topic but MON's quotes are a bit weird.  Purely speculation but he seems to be slightly removed from the action/negotiations with both the Milner and Young moves.

There appears to be a bit of a change in his job description this year.

Was thinking that myself.  Whether Randy feels that the Milner saga would be taking MON's eye off preseason and therefore taken it on himself or whether it has always been like that and it was just the impression we had that MON handled everything.

The General specifically said once that O'Neill had full control over transfers, without interference from anybody else.  That doesn't seem to be the case anymore, which is probably a good thing.

Was that meaning who we buy and sell though and not all the haggling, I don't know.

Isn't the 'surplus 6' just an urban myth.  I do not think the club ever named players or said how many.  I thought it was The Mail that guessed at a group of players that MON's comments might apply to and therefore put out an article that they were up for sale.

Salifou was on the bench against Walsall.

He's been here since 2007 and has made about 3 league appearences? No idea why he's still here tbh.

I think Luke Young, Shorey and Sidwell will still go tbh but can see Beye and NRC still being here past the deadline simply due to squad size.

I get the feeling Davies may be given one more chance to shine.  Cuellar will start the season as 1st choice right back and with Collin's injury proneness I can see Curtis getting a go alongside Dunne and maybe fluorishing again.

Think Davies will get another bite of the cherry. Need to see the real extent of his injury. Think we have been very fortunate on injuries the last couple of seasons and will have to use youngsters at some stage ............
