There have benn some really awful decisions made by officials today. Do these men know the laws of the game?
Indeed if I was an Arsenal fan I'd be fuming. Plus Cahill getting booked for the same sort of tackle which Dafoe got a penalty for.

The worst thing about getting relegated would be having to see us on this absolutely piss poor Championship program on BBC 1.

It really is beyond dreadful. "Oooh, let's make it properly interactive, and get a woman - an actual woman!! - to read out nonsense people text in!!!"

That goal by Conor Wickham was classy.

A future star.

I'd be fuming if I were an Arsenal fan, not about the ref but the team and the manager.

Today encapsulated why they haven't won a trophy for so long. Yes there were bad decisions, but for both sides but the bottom line is that they gave a four goal lead away and instead of focusing on that, the manager acts like a five year old blaming everybody else, failing to see the decisions that went for his side, but seeing all those that went against. The "world hates us" persecution complex is frankly, embarrasing and the manager is a bitter, paranoid and childish individual and this is reflected in the conduct of his players.

i disagree, Wenger is no worse that Fergusson or McLeish in moaning at the refs. I think the reason they've won very little is he's trying to play the way most overseas teams play and, as we saw in the world cup, the refs do blow for fouls more easily than here. Also he has spending constraints following the construction of their new stadium.

In attacking Wenger I was certainly not defending any other manager.

The issue for Arsenal is that while the manager continues to blame all and sundry for the teams failure to progress the real issues are not dealt with. He may want to play in the continental style, but where our league differs is the presence of more, ahem, "robust" teams such as Stoke and as yesterday proved, Newcastle.

I've no time for Barton but his challenge was perfectly legitimate and Diaby's reaction was straight out of the  "how dare you tackle me" file so loved by Arsenal players. Previous success under Wenger was based on a trademark swift passing game but with an agressive side that achieved the results.

Wenger is like so many other modern managers that put up a pretence of concern regarding the standard of officials in our game, but only when it affects them in the negative. Given a poor decision in their favour, it's a "we'll take that" attitude and move on.

It's an hipocrisy that does the game and it's officials no good, and at the moment, doesn't really help Arsenal either.

I'm surprised that Phil Dowd is still allowed to ref Premiership games. I thought the ref at our game yesterday was piss poor as well.

Phil Dowd sent Diaby off for both pushes. He would have only got a yellow for the one against Barton otherwise. Nolan then got booked for his ONE on the keeper. The second pen was given by the linesman who also wrongly chalked a Newcastle goal off. I know two wrongs don't make a right but swap those two around and we still have 4 goals scored by Newcastle.

As for Bartons challenge. It was a strong challenge but a fair challenge in the rules of the game. Newcastle would not have gotten back into the match if Diably hadn't overreacted.

It's not the first time that Aresnal have blown leads in matches (Blues a couple of years ago, Spurs this year) and it stems from Arsene still not being able to get a decent defence in. If he hadn't inherited Seaman, Adams and the rest, he would never have won a title and would have left these shores years ago.

Phil Dowd was disgraceful yesterday, the second penalty was ridiculous and the first wasn't much better and Barton could easily have broken Diaby's leg. I think our ref was Lee Mason and he had a shocker as well, I really don't know what the answer is to improving them.

I agree with the Mason and Dowd comments. Mason was inept at Villa Park yesterday, and his lino towards the North Stand was no better, getting calls wrong all day.

Dowd has always been a very poor ref IMO, and should be nowhere near the league. Not many are any good though. Webb and Foy are the only 2 I can stand, and the former is too lenient.

Finally, we are much, much better than both of these two.

Dowd was unsighted for the second and he went on the Assistants decision who supposedly had a better view. The first one, Kolscieny (sp?) tripped the player when he tried to get the ball by putting his leg between Bests to poke it away. It was a soft penalty to give away from Arsenal when the player had his back to goal and didn't have many options, not a bad decision though in my eyes. And although Barton is a thug, the challenge he put in was hard but fair. He was along the ground, wasn't two footed and studs weren't showing. His tucked in other leg was the one that really caught Diaby.

Did'nt think there was anything wrong with Bartons tackle yday, Diaby acted like all Arse players are encouraged to by their manager, a spoilt , petulant brat.

Wenger should get a grip, take some responsibility , stop the childish ramblings, and grow a pair, otherwise i can see that lot on the dark side of the city winning.

It was given by the linesman.

I agree that Dowd is a shit ref, (think Gabby, Vidic, cup fina)l, but you can't blame him for the 2nd pen as it was the linesman's decision.
