I may need to put a tin hat on after this but I didn't think Downing played too badly.  Looked quite good at times.

Agreed. Final ball a bit poor but he did well.

Don't mean to sound negative but I've not been impressed with Delf in the few times I've seen hm this summer. I had the impression he was a fair bit more aware and technically sound than he's seemed. Is that being harsh?

Not being harsh. Sure we all want him to succeed and we prob have rose tinted glasses regarding our youngsters. I've seen too many like him come and go. It sounds like he has a better attitude to the game than the likes of Luke Moore, but im not sure if he has the talent!

In the matches I have seen him in last season he is more a Linekar type striker then a Rooney type. He doesn't do much outside the box but he is intelligent in it as shown with his run to the near post for Reos ball in.

Controversy Alert!

I think we'd have been raving about Delfonso if he had come on and played as solidly as Heskey did.  I thought he linked play really well.  Showed for the midfielders and generally held the ball up excellently.

Good to see NRC putting in a good shift.  As said elsewhere the unwanted six are generally good players, but in order to be value for money they need to be used.

Hopefully MON will show more flexibility this season.

Funny how people see things differently... I thought he was very poor.

Can we offload him to Citeh as well?

Stewart Downing - The new Nigel Callaghan

Emule Heskey - The worst player I've ever seen in a Villa shirt. - and i've seen Bernie Gallagher

Steve Sidwell - Came on, and I honestly don't remember him touching the ball. - a complete waste of space.

Highlight - Probably Reo-Coker's performance

I'm sorry but you might not rate Heskey, but he is no way the worst player you can have seen in a villa shirt.

Please tell me you are joking ??? He looks slow and failed to cross on three occasions. Albrighton made him look like a fifty year old .....

Oh dear. I don't understand football anymore I think. His final ball was consistently awful, never ever reaching its intended target. If that is the case, what is the point? He is a luxury we can no longer afford to play and needs to be dropped to the bench.

I too can only assume the above comments are ironic. He was the worst Villa player on the pitch. And would have been by some considerable margin until Heskey came on...
