Have we had a 50/50 go our way tonight?

Would MON play JC as the lone striker ahead of Gabby? Discuss....

Not for me, Carew is much better in a two.

I wouldn't worry too much, Benfica are an excellent team, much better than what West Ham will come up with. I say that without knowing if the likes of Cardozo, Saviola, Aimar and David Luiz are playing? If not then time to worry but we did beat Feyenoord 3-1 last night so I wouldn't be slitting my wrists at this.

We beat Feyenoord's U19 team.

Yeah but most their goals have come from shots outside the box...and West Ham have Der Hammer!

Carew did play the lone frontman for Valencia when they won the league though. But I suspect you're right, and Martin likes him with a nippy front man.

I was surprised at how poor Delf was tonight in terms of his touch

NRC would be a good player if he had even the most average of passing ability. I'd still play him ahead of Sidders though.

Sidwell is incredibly anonymous. I spent ten minutes watching this, trying to work out from what I saw and heard, who was in the middle with Petrov.

I saw his goal yesterday, very well taken, but the bloke is absolutely fucking pointless. He contributed shit all last season other than that ball boy routine, and if he stays, I expect him to contribute the same.

It's all very well us going on about our deadwood we want to shift out, but who is going to actually want them?

Have to say, you know you're in trouble when the area of your team with the most positional interchanges is the defence.

Carew isn't mobile enough anymore to play there, and Gabby is vital to our style of play IMO.

I'd still keep him as an impact sub for now, with the odd run here and there.

We beat Feyenoord's U19 team.

A mixture of our first team and under 19s beat their under 19s.

Was it really THAT much of a youth team for Feyenoord?

Luke Young has been living up to the criticisms of him like a stereotype. He jumps in so poorly, no positional sense whatsoever. By contrast, Petrov's looked our only footballer worth of the name at times, the rest can be so rudimentary on the ball.

Plus ca change.

I'll tell you what else change. Reo-Coker is unbelievably poor on the ball. Like, unacceptably bad.

Admittedly it's a change in our team but it's hardly a surprise that he is like that. Without exception the most frustrating player we've had in a long time.

Keep Him? He deserves to start, along with Albrighton he's been the our best player this pre-season.

I won't be basing my impressions of the season on tonight any more than I would base them on last night.
