Downing in with a great chance one on one but over-ran the ball....
saw that,  wanker

I wonder how many times Ash has lost the ball.

Some people just want to see some of our players fail.
i dont want to see downing fail, its just obvious that he will, this is our most expensive plkayer ever and he is cack

Does seem that way.

Only saw the last 15 minutes and it's being played like what it is - a friendly.

I can't get any decent coverage. Could some kind soul provide a sensible analysis of the first half.

(can of worms notwithstanding)

We have dominated without looking remotely dangerous after Albrighton's goal. Feyenoord have had very little of the ball but have probably created more clear cut chances than us. And it's half time. NRC, Beye, Young and Albrighton all ok in patches, Gabby anonymous...

At times a little like last year. We can do a lot of good things but we lack a real cutting edge in the final third. If Ash is going to play there he'll need to grow into that role. Haven't seen much of Gabby, and it will be interesting to see what Carew does in a similar role should he come on. Young Marc Albrighton looks very keen indeed, and NRC is NRC. The defence looks all over the place at times.

We have done. Perhaps I've got a different game on.

OK first half.

We're trying to play from the back, and although we haven't looked too threatening in the final third it's pretty even.

Some nice touches from Feyenoord in tight situations, but then you'd expect that.

How is the £10m that we spent on Downing more than the £12m we spent on Milner?

Take out a brilliant solo goal and our most expensive player showing not how to control a thru ball we have IMO been unable to pass the ball, cross too long and look defensively frail.

for me its a slower paced version of the way we played last season, it just takes us a little longer to give the ball away

Reasoned analysis:

Guzan - couldn;t do much will the goal but despite a lack of much to do has still looked unconvincing

Beye - surprisingly good but seems to get forward and get caught out a bit too often

Dunne - class as always

Cuellar - a bit anonymous and his partnership with Dunne is a bit shaky

Warnock started well but has fallen away - looks knackered

Reo-Coker - getting forward and getting stuck in but his tackling is woeful

Petrov - looks knackered in the heat, anything he's trying isn;t coming off

Downing - not done much. Second touch on that chance was dire

Albrighton - looks ready for the first team already. Finish was outstanding and at least we've got someone who wants to have a shot.

Young - getting kicked to shit. Everything decent coming through him.

Agbonlahor - has had pretty much the sum of shag all to work with.

Overall, not the best performance you'd see but a typical pre-season one. Feyenoord have offered prctically nothing but find themselves on terms but they've also had by far the better chances. If Villa stepped it up a notch they'd win this easily.

much more possession for villa for once!! being a friendly the players are trying to keep it on the floor which is nice to see. Also formation helps. petrov and reo in the middle looks solid.
downing and albrighton looked threatning in patches.
ashley and gabby was ok.
beye was decent going forward.
warnock has been poor,
dunne looked a bit rusty.

all in all a decent performance.

would like to see FONZ given a run.

LOOKS like MON wants a 4-4-1-1. We might see Carew mainly off the bench this season.

we spent 12.5 on downing, havent seen the 20mil bid for downing either. and what do you reckon we would get for downing?
