The Doug Ellis Building
« on: July 10, 2010, 08:45:12 PM »
In this weeks Mail,
Pictured on the site of the old Ansells Sports & Social club, in Wellhead Lane, a sad loss as a pre/post match boozer,
The new University gym building has been called The  Doug Ellis building,
apparantly he,s had a degree off them some time back.
Gone , but still leaving his mark !

Not the first time that Doug's name has been inextricably associated with an entity bearing the name 'Birmingham City...'.

That's where I got my degree (though I had to put a bit of work in) and what did they name after me?  Bugger all.

I've never understood that - the closest University to Villa Park is called "Birmingham City University", and the nearest University to the sty is called "Aston University".

"Never" is stretching it as it is a fairly recent name change and some of us will remember when it was just Birmingham Poly.

I have no problem with another building in brum being named after old deadly. In fact, how about the Villa give them the lettering off THE WITTON LANE STAND to do it ?
