I'm annoyed about Van Der Vaart most. If Randy wants a stadium filler he could have got one for next to nothing there.

Would it have done our team any good though? Surely the last thing we need is another attacking midfielder. Young is very good playing there, and it is supposedly Ireland's best position as well. Middlesborough fans also seemed to think that this is where Downing is most effective. In fact, attacking midfield is probably our second strongest position in terms of strength in depth (behind CB). Even ignoring the fact that it is ill-advised to buy players without a permanent manager, I don't think it would have been a sensible purchase considering our not infinite funds and excellent cover in that position already, not mentioning VDV's wages, which I assume would be high coming from Madrid.

The one I wanted the most was Flamini (even more than a striker!) We could really use a good all round midfielder to sit alongside Petrov in a 4-2-3-1. Reo Coker does an ok job (and I think is an essential starter given our current resources), but I'd really like both these sitting midfielders to be able to distribute the ball after winning it. I think an attacking three made up from any of Young, Ireland Albrighton and Downing is then as good as anything in the Premiership given enough possession.

Torres is still at Liverpool, most of the 'dead wood' is still at Man city, Spurs continued to sign players and kept Keane, jenas, Bentley and all, West Ham held on to Parker and Cole, Everton all their 'star's and we signed a reluctant Ireland, lost Harewood, Shorey and some mediocre midfielder  but kept most of those including the 2 Young's until Jan at least.
Plenty of mid and lower table clubs signed several players to help in their battle for survival only time will tell whether it was good enough.
Lowest PL spend since 2006and what would it have been but for Man City much, much lower a sign of things to come.
So a big none event.
For many yes, Man City, Spurs and surprisingly Blues a good window. For Villa well you decide.

So Hleb was good enough for Arsenal and Barcelona (albeit as a squad player),  VDV was good enough for Real Madrid, but according to some, neither would be of much use to us.  I can understand people trying to rationalise their disappointment but that's just comical.

I would have loved VDV but I'm not bothered about Hleb at all. Sorry if that offends anybody.

One player I was sorry we missed out on yesterday was Sigurdsson of Reading. Seen a bit of him. a real decent prospect IMO.

I hope the lower spend is a sign of things to come.
The less money plays a part in the game, the better.
Then get rid of the twat agents and we're on the way back to something like our game back.

I hope it sticks in Jim White's shrivelled scrote faced craw too.

Of all the signings made this window, the only ones I'm jealous of are City sgning Milner  >:( and Spurs getting Van der Vaart.
If it's ratified it will be a cracking signing for them.  It shouldn;t be ratified, because they are admitting that they didn't start until 4pm, but we are not going to see the FA not allow Spurs off with little details like that now are we!
For those saying on here it could have been Randy's bums on seats signings, if you beleive Harry (I know, I know!) it only became an option late in the day and surely he was offered to the Champs League teams first, so it was never going to happen.  Last summer was the opportunity for the likes of him IMO.
As for Hleb, well he sounds like something I coughed up in the batchroom first thing this morning, so i reckon he's at the right place!!

Spurs want 'special dispensation' to sign VDV, they'll probably get it, we all know the rules don't apply to Spurs.

I'm thinking of touting my girlfriend's nephew when he comes over here to university from Poland next year. He's talking of playing for the university, but he's an U19 for a second division side over there, so should aim a bit higher.

And he's an attacking right-back.

Hleb could be good, but could also be permanently injured. We'll see. As for us? Ho-hum. We bought no-one. Still, our starting 11 should be good enough with the right manager to play anyone. We've lost Milner only in real terms and gained Ireland. i think Petrov should have been replaced but we'll just have to muddle through. Win our next game and then we may have a little bit of confidence and belief.

Aren't they the same rules that allowed us to sign Richard Dunne on September 2nd last year?

Well they now have him and have also registered him in the 25 even though that cut off was at 1700 today. Apparently a "technical problem" was the reason it wasn't done by the deadline.

And as I have mentioned before. With Dunne, we has been in talks for days and eveything was ready apart from Citeh defaulting on his payment which delayed the signing very late on. According to Redknapp the first he knew was at 1600 so their delay was more actually performing a medical and agreeing personal terms, ie the main things to do before the transfer deadline. Although Arrys version is already in dispute as RM are denying any contact with Bayern.
