So 651 pages later and we have amassed one player.  That's the Villa for you!

Martin left because he wasnt allowed to sign anyone for whatever reason, so had he stayed we would still be in the same position today having not signed anyone. If anything, Martin leaving probably gave us a better chance of signing someone before the window shut.
I don't for one minute deny that Martin would not have been given funds had he stayed. Not the £35m - £40m he'd had previous summers but I he would have had enough to bring in a couple of quality players. I think what really got to him was that he'd been found out, some of his previous buys that he'd put on big contracts were going to be very difficult to move. The General touched on it with his first post of the summer about how mistakes are made, having to own up, learning from it and movining on. The problem for Martin was he wasn't prepared to carry the can, admit it (and learn from it), as it would in his eyes completely change his whole relationship with Randy Lerner.

Martin knew what would happen and here we are today and apart from Shorey and Harewood, we haven't been able to move anybody on. No real surprise considering the prices we bought them for and the salaries they're on. Due to pride, cowardice or self preservation, Martin decided he didn't want to be around when his shit hit the fan, despite support both from the board and the fans. The "sell to buy" claims were more of a smoke screen than a policy but it served him well in disguising his errors to the boys in the press.

Today we're suffering due to his actions but we'll regroup and come back stronger. It's been a tough lesson for Randy to learn but I'm sure his commitment to the club is still the same, if not more so. Meanwhile, Martin is sitting at home with not a worry in the world, his reputation in tact and waiting for the phone to ring for the next big job. He may think he got away with it but it won't be too long before he's found out to be the fraudster that he is.

I pity the next club that hires the spineless, tactically inept, egotistical media darling. They probably won't have an owner that can survive the type of chaos Martin will leave in his wake. Instead of feeling disappointed we've brought nobody in today, just rejoice that O'Neill is no longer at our club. We're better off without him. Even today.

Well done Spurs. £8m for RVDV!

That is one hell of a coup!

Yep fair play Spurs and for the third time today I find myself looking enviously at a another club's additions.

Isn't the deadline six o'clock or does that only apply to certain teams?

I've been a critic of mon for a while but I'd still like to hear his version of events- we haven't heard his reasons and maybe he's not allowed to go public as part of the settlement , I just think he realised he wasn't going to be able to take us any higher than 6th at best and in all honesty he should have gone in may.

This transfer window is Martin O'Neill's legacy to us. It was inevitable the moment he left.

Seeing the swill sign Hleb made me puke, there is every chance that we will finish below them this season,
although we were managerless it didn't or shouldn't stop the club stengthening. I think there is a lot more to what is happening at Villa that we are not aware of.

Hleb is a good signing but they still dont have a player I would pick ahead of any of our first XI.

Redknapp really sticks in my craw.  Reading Sky News at lunchtime, he offers it's going to be 'a quiet day', & that there is 'nothing doing'.

5 hours later he's lined up VDV, & tried the crazy Keane/Pineaar/Saha deal.  Makes me sick.
