To say NRC can do a job in midfield just magnifies how far our expectations have fallen. Yesterday the same deficiences were there to be seen, he is at best a lower premiership club player, which well could be us if we continue to play like that. Downing has a major flaw, he lacks courage and for 12 million was a terrible buy. a bit of perspective though, we are two key defenders down and our most prolific forward is missing, the kids were out muscled but will get better.

I'd be a wee bit concerned with Flamini's situation at Milan.

Has he even been playing for them?
He played for them midweek in Europe (CL or EL).

And came on tonight in a pre-season game against Juventus.

Is that swap deal of AYoung for Jenas, Keane and Bentley a bit more attractive?
Nope.

But I don't mind Young for Huddlestone or O'Hara , Pavlyuchenko & Kranjcar.

Ash will be the next best player of ours to leave.

He should not be sold to spurs unless we get Defoe, Huddlestone, Modric, Bale and £20 million.

There are some reports today that Stoke are after Peter Crouch. I've no idea if he's available, but if he is then I hope we can make an effort to sign him.

I can't see Crouch being available.

He's currently Spurs only fit striker.

More chance of Keane or Pavlyuchenko going IMO.

Don't see Crouch solving any of our problems. We could do without another temptation to lump the ball forward. Plus, he'll bring too much press with him right now. I want someone who's gonna bust a gut, not one of those overpaid, overrated, twat English internationals.

Again this would come down to the old argument we had under O Neill. Why pay 10+ million on Crouch, when we could buy someone better for less overseas probably. I reckon Huntelaar would cost the same as Crouch.

I'm not going to pretend NRC is some footballing genius that will solve all our problems, but sometimes it's as much about the type of player as it is their ability.  A midfielder with muscle and energy to protect the back 4 and allow the better players to get forward is what is missing and NRC can do that.

He has the will and the desire but not the talent, if we are to improve we must get better players.

Right now, I might take Bale in a straight swap for Young. Proving to be a far more effective player at the moment...

I agree.

He's very, very limited football, but sometimes you do need someone to sit in the middle and be niggly, breaking stuff up.

I'd concur with this, but it would help if Nigel would understand his own limitations and build his game from that.

We need some bollocks in midfield - we were completely overrun yesterday and needed someone to stick his foot in and impose himself on the opposition.  I truly believe that in time, Delph will be that man but we cannot afford to wait for him, so we need a shorter term (dare I say cheaper) solution, and O'Hara is that man.  We'd get him for £3M I reckon.

I was really, really surprised to see us start with Petrov and Ireland in the middle yesterday.

Anyone could see that central pairing would get overrun.

Very good shout Des, been suggesting O'Hara for ages, can't understand why there has been no real interest in him or, indeed, why more clubs were not after Kevin Prince Boateng as I thought he had a very good World Cup
