I dont know where you got him from because I've never heard of him. Then again, my knowledge of overseas footbah isnt what it used to be.

Anyway, transfers. Javier Pastore anyone?

I was sure I'd heard of him, but then realised I was thinking of Vincent Pastore, who plays Sal 'Big Pussy' Bonpensiero in the Sopranos (filthy fucking rat).

Pastore, attacking-midfieldy-playmakery type. Quite tall, not the quickest but strong as well as technical on the ball done very well in Italy with Palermo, played for the Argies in the World Cup (he was one of the midfielders who was left out for Maxi Rodriguez by our future manager). He can play both the Xabi Alonso and Sneijder roles, and we have no chance of signing him.

Good summary?

Wouldn't having money to spend and being bigger than Palermo plus having the foreign signings ban lifted :) mean we could sign him?

We are bigger than Palermo, but he'll stay there for another year and, if he does well, go to a bigger club than us, like Milan or Juve. Shame because he's one of my new faves, he's got the languid style of Socrates and the modern strength of Kaka (not exactly as good as either, but you get the picture), and I actually think he'd do really well in England, given a pre-season.

Not seen Pastore play, but he sounds a bit like Yohan Gourcuff? I think we need a bit more a combatitive midfielder myself, a bit of a general. I think that way Petrov will be given more license to get forward like he did on Saturday and at Celtic. Still wouldn't mind a top class forward either, I've said it before but Radamel Falcao would be perfect, can't believe he only cost Porto £4m. Like someone else said, now the international transfer embargo has been lifted, hopefully we'll see some similar bargains rock up at V.P!

He's less talented than Gourcuff, but stronger on the ball and more versatile. I'd take Gourcuff any day of the week because, although he didn't show it in the World Cup, he really is magic when on form, but Pastore is more versatile and would complement Ireland and Petrov well because he's very tactically aware. Plus with that midfield three? We'd never lose the damn ball, so decent tactics and positioning would really do for winning the ball back, especially with an industrious front three pressing high up the pitch (I wouldn't want to be a defender on the ball with Gabby, Ash and Albrighton at my heels!). Having said that, I'd like to see Flamini as he's very good on the ball and would increase our energy in the midfield, going somewhere towards replacing Milner and, as you say, allowing Petrov that little bit more license. Mind you, he played with a player as attacking as Milner on Saturday and still got forward, so I think it's more a question of mentality than tactics on that front.

As for a new forward, I'm inclined to trust our youngsters unless we really can get a really top forward, because I think the crop we have all have their different strengths and all offer something different (except Heskey). Ashley can also play very far forward, and we'll only play with one forward anyway, so I'm going with MacDonald on this one.

Based on my vague knowledge of Pastore gleaned just the past few minutes reading this thread and wikipedia he sounds good. Not sure where he might fit in with Stan, Ireland and Delph being able to play the same role. For me there seems to be a whole world of unheard of Serie A players who just seem to move round Serie A clubs.

Now, Suarez. Totally unrealistic as a signing for us. That said it would put paid to any media stories about us not spending if we signed a top prospect like him. If we got him I might forget what a horrid little cheating swine he is.

If we got Suarez I'd literally leap for joy. I've never actually leapt from joy before, but I'd give it a go for Suarez.

Could do a lot worse than Guillaume Hoarau at PSG. 6ft 4 forward, kind of a cross between JC and Peter Crouch.
But with less fitness and vice issues.

I'd take Sessègnon off their hands too, but I'd say we're probably OK for a playmaker at the moment.

Giampaulo Pazzini would fill our number 9 shirt very nicely. Just watching him play for Samdoria against Bremen at the moment. Good movement off the ball, scored a fair few over the last 2 seasons and just coming into his peak age too!

What's der big oidea with this Kevin Prince Boateng transfer?

Reports yesterday that he was on his way to Milan.

Joins Genoa today for £5 million and is loaned straight out - to Milan.
With a view to a permanent transfer.

Am I missing something?
Why don't Milan just sign him now.

Sounds very iffy to me.

Have there been anymore rumours about flamini going anywhere?

I think he would be ideal for us alongside Petrov, allowing 3 of Young, Ireland, Downing and Albrighton to play in front.  Flamini's energy (comparable to Milner's) and his left foot would provide the platform for the three flair players to play with freedom.  They'd be a nightmare to mark!

Playing one up front would mean that one of the strikers could be sold too.

No more signings this summer. Milners transfer money is being used to offset the salaries.

I think if we got a Artatla style player, and a lively forward in the Keane or at a stretch Rodelliga mode then we might have a very decent season after all, depending on if we get a cool head to manage them of course.
