We have no money. We aren't signing those players. Please people, calm down or you'll be dissappointed....

At which point has anyone at the club said we have no money?

The sell to buy thingy.

which has been so blown out of proportion and completely misunderstood by the press. By sell to buy, which every club does anyway, the board want us to shed some of the dead weight on the playing staff. This was a task entrusted to MON, and he was unable and seemingly unwilling to do. The board clearly felt that if we're going to pay significant transfer fees and wages, then those players should be ultiized. They weren't. Subsequently, the board mandated that before MON got any more cash to burn, then he'd need to sell certain assets to the point where wages expenses better related to current turnover.

I firmly believe Randy will support any new manager with funds. It doesn't mean it will be a blank cheque, or that certain wages (Heskey, Davies, Sidwell come immmediately mind) don't need to be moved on. But the sell to buy thing isn't a hard rule whereby we need to sell before being able to buy players.

The reality is the new manager, whoever it is, will want to add a couple of players himself but will also want to see everyone in the squad and give them all a chance.  That means the wages issue, whilst still important has got to put on the back burner for a year now and then be addressed properly as part of next summers transfer dealings.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see them arrive, but I am highly sceptical. Surely RL's first priority is signing a manager, not players. It just doesn't stack up before you add in our financial situtation. Of course money will be available to a new manager, but given our wage bill is a problem, we are highly unlikely to add Ireland, Flamini and Huntelaar to the pay roll at around £200k a week minimum for the 3.

And why oh why would the chairman spend precious funds on players before a manager takes over. And if the manager in waiting has sanctioned the deals, what is stopping him taking the job in the first place????

It just smacks of bullshit that we'd all love to be true, so we find ways of making it not seem that daft.

Does Randy not handle draft picks for the browns?  sven or jol who i think its between for next manager would rather have flamini and huntelaar in the squad rather than miss out on reinforcing the squad due to have minimal to no days of the window left. next week i see 2 players in and the manager will be at the game against newcastle and unviled the following day. if this is the case he will have 7 days to appraise and evaluate the team and coaching staff aswel as try to get in a player or 2, that would be mega hard graft for a weeks work dont you think

I honestly don't expect anyone other than Ireland to come in, and I don't blame the board whatsoever, as it is entirely down to MONs completely scandalous timing of his resignation. I think in many ways, we are better saving any money we make until January / next summer once the new manager knows exactly what is in the squad. Randy signing players would be a hugely dangerous path to follow.

Equally I don't expect anyone else to come in. I'd like Flamini especially, though, it would give us a proper squad with depth and variety in midfield.

Ashley, Downing, Albrighton....we certainly are in need of a winger. And, having not yet decided on a permanent manager, I think it's perfect logic to spunk millions on Bentley.

Troy, with Ash looking comfortable playing a free role behind the strikers and talk of Downing adopting a more central position once Jimmy goes then maybe it wouldnt be quite so irrational?

alreAdy it feels like we have 4 new signings after seeing Saturdays game, if we utilise the squad then we have some decent players here who deserve a few games , mon never utilised them and therefore they were a luxury as he flogged his regulars into the ground until they were knackered every march.

Him going has been great for many of the fringe players and now I think we maybe only need 2 new signings to have a really good squad - ireland hopefully will come but I'd trust keV mac to recommend the right players to randy in any case

The thing is, with the way Villa have done business over the last few years we could easily have fees agreed, etc for a player or 2 and have everything ready to go but we were just waiting to see who we could shift.  It could well be that he's gone to meet with the club/player(s) to tell them we are still interested but we just want to get the manager sorted before the cheques are signed.

Is any manager going to be upset if, in an interview, we say 'We've got a few deals arranged for some top players, if you get the job we'll get you to decide if we carry on with them or not', if contact has already been made it makes sense for us to keep things sweet, even if the new man then says he's not interested, better that than to let the player go.

Interesting quote from Rednapp in the Guardian (article headline - Harry Redknapp says Manchester City are doing deals in fear of Spurs),  'Redknapp said he had narrowly failed to pull off a deal for a star player at one of England's top clubs, although he refused to name him. "There was one particular player, I just think would have been amazing for this club, an amazing signing and I really thought we had a real chance," he said. "He's at a big club and it'd be difficult. Where? In England."'

Perhaps he is referring to Ashley Young? He tried and was told to bugger off.

If we could get heskey off the wage bill even on a free and sidwell and get in keane and flamini then we would be much better off - nige and luke should play a big part this season so that saves us signing players to replace them and albrighton , lichaj and Clark also may feature , throw bannan into the equation as well and things look good.

Now we can expect variation and changes and a manager who uses players at his disposal- I can understand randy wanting players not used to be sold , but now they will be used.

Only davies , sidders and heskey are surplus in my opinion.

Anyone think maybe Ireland may not come and Randys looking at Flamimi as an option?

no. I don't think City will pay the straight cash amount we want for Milner. I think if the deal falls flat because of Ireland, we'll have Milner till Jan at least...or I hope anyway.
