Trust Greg to name those two as opposed to the three or four who may have some use again.

Could have named most of them. Davies was terrible, he's out of contract in the summer so unless he's playing regularly he'll be off. NRC got a raw deal but again will be off if he doesn't start, likewise Young who i think most people would keep but he doesn't seem to want to stay. Beye, i guess will stay. still 20 odd million in fees paid for there and the possiblity of nothing back if we don't sell and they're not in the managers plans

I'm sure he is after a pay off of some kind, but i can't see it being £2m. Where did you hear that?

Dunno really. not really inspiring names linked but they all have the bonus of not being MON :0). I'd like Moyes. failing that a foreign manager with a wide knowledge of the foreign transfer market.

We probably need to replace the two you mentioned... and thats about it.

Agreed Maz.

Davies, NRC and Luke Young are decent players, and all three could now be in the reckoning for the game now on Sat. After that, it's up to them.

Davies gets a fair amount of stick, but his iffy performances seemed to coincide with his shoulder injury in Feb 09. He played on through the pain barrier, to the detriment of his form and when Collins and Dunne rocked up he was out of the side.

Now Collins is out it's up to him. He might slot in well alongside Dunne, or he might blow his chance and have to move on like Shorey. I'm pretty certain he won't be moving to a bigger club than us, so if he wants to stay at a club that gets decent gates and (sometimes far too briefly) plays in Europe, it's in his interest to knuckle down and turn it around.

I think its common sense to wait for a manager to be appointed, if only because its money he'd want to spend on players of his choice and we've seen plenty of good players let go because they weren't the managers type of player.

Generally I'd agree, but if we're going the European coach route they're well used to inheriting a squad and getting the best out of them. It's generally only the traditional-style British manager who dictates to the board who he wants and how how much he reckons a player is worth.

Fair enough. i think its asking a lot to get Lerner's first choice in anyway by the transfer deadline unless he's unemployed. Its going to be a transitional season at the least with a fair amount of steadying the ship so i guess we'll muddle through with what we have.

I think though with the squad we have, minus Milner, plus Ireland, that there is more than enough quality for the new man to be able to challenge for the top 6 at least.
