Something like -

Shorey, Davies, Sidwell, Milner, Heskey - out

Ireland, Keane in.

Lichaj, Clarke, Albrighton, Delfouneso 'promoted'.

Would gives us something along the lines of -

----------------- Friedel
Cuellar - Collins - Dunne - Warnock
----------------- Petrov
Ashley -------- Ireland ----- Downing
------------Keane ----- Gabby

Does look a bit open, but we've Nige to come in if needed and Keane, Ash and Ireland aren't scared to put a foot in.

It's the sort of team that in the home games would enable us to take the game to the opposition, Collins has shown he can drive from the back - it's attacking but creative and there's alot of movement there.

I really don't want us to sign Robbie Keane.

why? He seems very motivated this summer, in great shape and has easily been Spurs' best striker in pre-season. He also has a hot wife which is neither here nor there but I felt worthy of throwing in.

Anyway, on the Young thing The Guardian may usually be quite reliable but it is bollocks in this case. I've not heard anything solid (Ie not from a newspaper) on Young leaving.

Never mind the Guardian, you need to read Football Transfer Rumours for the facts:-

Ed, more news on the Martin O Neill situation (if you recall it looks like we have the same sourse of information). The McGeady deal is now dead in the water, McGeady had stalled the Moscow deal as much as he could to allow MON to step in and this suited Celtic as they wanted Davies as part of the deal. Anyway, it appears that MON is nearer to the door than expected (I predicted December) and could be gone by the end of the transfer window and so McGeady has decided to go to Moscow. This is down to yet another disagreement with Lerner in the amount available to spend from the Milner deal and now having Paul Faulkner(CEO, you is playing a bigger part at Villa)+ Lerner having to rubberstamp the deal. I'm also told that there is an extreme possibility that Ashley Young is also to be sold and as MON's golden child, this will finally make him walk. Expect this to be Spurs, Liverpool or Inter Milan. Another factor also is that Villa have had a bid of £3m for Carew, MON happy to let him go but Lerner sees Carew more of a fans favourite than both Milner and Young, plus the fact he has been the top scorer for 3 seasons, despite major injury setbacks. Ed- you heard this {editor's note - my info is that MON is just waiting for Lerner to force him out rather than walking out. He did say it is looking like coming to a head and suggested a player being sold over MON's head would be done to force him to quit. He didn't give a name, but I guessed it would have to be Young, it was the only one that would make sense. I was told to the MON out and a new man in before the end of the transfer window was Lerner's plan. It is certainly looking interesting.}

Even the full stops in this piece de caque look suspect.

I actually like Pienaar, last season I thought he was best player for Everton when they played us at VP. I'd prefer Arteta though.

In fairness, it is ridiculously sudden. Even now I can't quite believe it.

Right, may as well close this puppy. Nothing's gonna happen now. We need a new boss first of all. If Ireland wants to come, he'll be waiting to see who takes the reigns here. Villa and City will likely go for straight cash.

Still. We might see a few more foreign signings now. Not necassarily a good thing though.

God this has really fucking depressed me.
