If it weren't for the international break I think it would all be happening right now.

I would imagine that Stephen Ireland can get some of his stuff out of the way because he doesn't play for his national team.

No doubt that will ease the deal going through quickly on Thursday.

I tweeted Neil Moxley at the Mail regarding the rumour that Ireland was having his medical today he replied:

@adamhamer1 other villa related issues are occupying me at the mo. Will chk and update.

I wonder...

I've spoken to Neil and he says it's a 'small earthquake no-one dead'-type story about Saturday.

Yep. That's why it will be announced on Thursday, I've read. I thought I couldn't get more hacked off with the England national team after the World Cup - until this ridiculous friendly cropped up.
To be fair its not just England ...plenty of other  countries appear to be involved in games this week. It is bloody madness though.

I see one of the rags link us with Pienaar today.

Now he's a very good player but for some strange reason the prospect doesn't excite me. Can't fathom why.

Also, he's a left winger or central midfielder so if we did sign him wouldn't it indicate that we were selling Ash or not signing Ireland?

Anyway, on the Young thing The Guardian may usually be quite reliable but it is bollocks in this case. I've not heard anything solid (Ie not from a newspaper) on Young leaving.

This has gone to 573 pages based on ZERO signings. How long would it be if MON had actually signed anyone by now?

I tell you what, with a midfield three of Petrov, Ireland and Pienaar, we'd all think back to the days when we couldn't keep possession like we now look back to the days when we had no defence.

Or maybe, we're going to try and bolster our midfield options!!!!

Anyway, on the Young thing The Guardian may usually be quite reliable but it is bollocks in this case. I've not heard anything solid (Ie not from a newspaper) on Young leaving.

Never mind the Guardian, you need to read Football Transfer Rumours for the facts:-

Ed, more news on the Martin O Neill situation (if you recall it looks like we have the same sourse of information). The McGeady deal is now dead in the water, McGeady had stalled the Moscow deal as much as he could to allow MON to step in and this suited Celtic as they wanted Davies as part of the deal. Anyway, it appears that MON is nearer to the door than expected (I predicted December) and could be gone by the end of the transfer window and so McGeady has decided to go to Moscow. This is down to yet another disagreement with Lerner in the amount available to spend from the Milner deal and now having Paul Faulkner(CEO, you is playing a bigger part at Villa)+ Lerner having to rubberstamp the deal. I'm also told that there is an extreme possibility that Ashley Young is also to be sold and as MON's golden child, this will finally make him walk. Expect this to be Spurs, Liverpool or Inter Milan. Another factor also is that Villa have had a bid of £3m for Carew, MON happy to let him go but Lerner sees Carew more of a fans favourite than both Milner and Young, plus the fact he has been the top scorer for 3 seasons, despite major injury setbacks. Ed- you heard this {editor's note - my info is that MON is just waiting for Lerner to force him out rather than walking out. He did say it is looking like coming to a head and suggested a player being sold over MON's head would be done to force him to quit. He didn't give a name, but I guessed it would have to be Young, it was the only one that would make sense. I was told to the MON out and a new man in before the end of the transfer window was Lerner's plan. It is certainly looking interesting.}

No, I'm pretty sure that we can rely on the fact the idiot's name is Ed.

did a five year old write that? Why would Lerner not sell Carew for being a fan favourite, but would be seemingly ok with Ashley Young. I am guessing Villa fans would do their head if Ashley Young was allowed to leave, however much a favourite John Carew is. What a load of bollocks.
