Less of a drain on resources as in, Ivanhoe is on £60k a week for doing what ???

For impersonating a tranquilised slug with a gammy leg.

Five years ago today Darius Vassell left us to sign for Man City. How times have changed.

But only for Citeh.

We are back in the league of fireselling journeymen for a couple of million here and there to fund new signings.

That's not really the case at all.

The reason we're selling them is because they don't play and they have such huge wages because we now spend a lot more on wages.

You seriously don't believe we have a sell to buy policy this summer?

Is that your serious belief?  The General's quote is laudible, but it is also spin.  We have to sell players to fund new ones - it is quite clear.  And this article - well I don't know what the hell this is supposed to imply.

The possibility of Ashley Young joining Tottenham appears that little bit stronger, after Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill said if the club cannot keep him, they need to get a fee as close to their valuation as possible.

Talking to the Mirror, O'Neill clearly felt concerned Young could follow fellow England international James Milner out of Villa Park, less than three weeks before the start of the new season.

"Our job is, first and foremost to keep the players. If that's the case then that's great," said O'Neill. "If that's not the case, then obviously we have to try and get the valuation that we put on players or get as close to it as possible."

Many observers felt Young performed better for Villa in the first season after his move from Watford than he did last term, but O'Neill disagrees.

"In the next couple of weeks, I'm sure there will be great interest in Ashley, who has been fantastic for us," he said. "I felt myself that his form last season was every bit as good as in the previous year. Not -everybody agreed with that but I thought Ashley was really a different class."

Villa paid just short of £10 million for Young in 2007, and reports suggest they would be looking for approaching three times that.

Ridiculous signings like that piece of shit, will ultimately cost MON his job.

If he authorised Heskey being on £60k per week I'd like to beat him with a slipper.

At the start of last season, I said he'd walk about half way through.

I reckon he'll fall on his sword if we have a bad trot.

He surely authorised it.

Therefore we should rip his arm off and beat him to death with it.

Hardly surprising.

Surely somebody has noticed monthly audits of a quarter of a million for 'Bear tumbling' and said, "hang on..."?

That article from the mirror is so utterly shit it's scary.

The first quote is almost certainly in response to a question about Milner not Young.  It'll have then been followed up with a question asking if he thought Ashley Young was being bid for and he's given a straight answer which has then been made out as if it's him agreeing to sell.

There's quotes but the context seems all wrong.

I'm sure I read quotes from Stephen Ireland recently saying "Sunderland and Fulham are interested, maybe even Aston Villa."

Mysterious Ways over on VT and his Citeh equivalent have both said we're keen, but that it's likely to be a separate deal probably later into the summer.

We might be keen but would he come to us? Before Liverpool, Man Utd, even Fulham? Money and managers might play a big part in his choice.

We only seem to attract young players on their way up (Young, Milner, Delph), older players on their way down (Dunne, Heskey, Friedel) or the players just on the cusp of being quite good (Young, Petrov, Carew).
