I reckon a deal for Bentley is on if we're letting McGeady go to the Ivans.

Let's sign Bentley, Keane, Ireland, Parker and Onuha.

5 players, 4 from teams around us and we'll be a way better team.

Aiden McGeady is in talks with Spartak Moscow.

***Gets out prayer mat ***

Could be just a rehash though, as I'm sure they were linked with him last month.

Whilst I wouldn't trust the date on the cover of the Mirror I'm ever so slightly happy about this. If a more solid source arrives I'll crack open the bubbly.

If we did sign him I had a Bridge sorted out.

I’d have them, although I’d prefer Flamini, for his youth and cheaper price tag- although perhaps Parker’s grit is something we’ve lacked for too long?

Eitherway, we'd be a much better side than last term.

He's a good prospect and has scored at 1 in 3 (ish) since he broke into their side, which is impressive for a 20yo with 50+ games under his belt, but he is very inconsistent and already thinks he's made it.  That Man City are the only club with serious interest in a guy who was being lauded as the best player in italy since Baggio should ring some alarm bells.  To then pay 30m and give him 60k a week is shocking.

The biggest problem is what happens to Man City in a few years.  Even if they manage to win everything they will never get their turnover to the point where it covers the wages so they're going to be impossible to sell.  As exciting as it is seeing all the big money splashing about and being talked up as title challengers I think most sensible Man City fans will start to worry before long if it carries on like this.  Even Chelsea at their worst didn't splash the cash like this and they also made sure they got some players who would be good for sponsorship to absorb some of the wage costs (think Ballack, Drogba, Shevchenko, who are all the big superstar of their national side) Man city have only signed Robinho in that class and he doesn't play.

Flamini would be superb. He'd offer us more than Petrov, although I am a fan of Petrov. For the reported £4m Flamini cannot be ignored. Even if he would cost a bit in wages, his fee for his quality is great.

Flamini would be awesome but he'd have to take a pay cut.  A quick hunt on the internet suggests that he's on about 100k, which is well out of our price range, 65-70 has got to be the absolute top line for us.

Same. I'd advise the Forth. Beautiful view, good long think on the way down - all you could ask for really.

In all seriousness, whatever it is that some people see in McGeady, I'm afraid it's passed me by completely. If we signed him I really would wonder when the last time MON renewed his passport was.

Lets look at this:

Goal Keepers:

Friedel
Guzan
Parish/Siegrist

Full Backs:

Warnock
Onouha
Lichaj
Lowry

Centre Backs:

Dunne
Cuellar
Collins
Clark

Central Midfielders:

Flamini
Petrov
Ireland
Reo-Coker
Delph

Wingers:

Ashley Young
Downing
Bentley
Albrighton

Strikers:

Gabby
Keane
Carew
Delfouseo

That's a decent squad of 24. Maybe add Bannan to make the 25 and Bob's your mother's brother.

Now Costs:

Ireland = Part of Milner deal.
Onuoha = Part of Milner deal
Flamini = £5 million
Keane = £6 million
Bentley = £10million

Total = £21million - Milner

Earnings:

Milner = Ireland + Onouha + £10million max
Shorey = £1.5million
Luke Young = £2.5million
Heskey = £2million
Beye = £500K
Sidwell = £2million
Davies = £5million

Total = £23.5million
Net = + £1.5million

Good business that.

Not bad business, Sandman, apart from Onuoha. If we thought Cuellar was poor on the ball for a full back, think again. Onuoha as a first choice full back would be nothing short of worrying.

If we are to take two players from City plus the money, I'd go for Zabaleta. However, I do think the maximum number of players involved in any player plus cash arrangement will be one, and it will be Ireland (quite an exciting prospect). Also, I'm hardly convinced we'll get Flamini, and that £5m is stretching to optimistic, despite what all those reports said.

And you forgot Delph.

My joke a while back was that I'd live under a bridge and become an alcoholic if we signed him. John M threatened to hold me to it!

Agree with your second paragraph. Hence why i went off on one earlier.

Well Sandman, if we sign McGeady I'll give you a wave on the way down if we pick the same bridge.
