What percentage of our fan base would be happy if Randy went over to Holland and brought back a handsome, 20yr old with a fancy name? Even if he couldn't kick a ball.

Depends. Are we talking Roque Santa Cruz handsome?

Does this mean Angel is available to sign?

Does it also mean an MLS side has arguably a better frontline than we do?

If JPA stays with them, that's quite a front two they'll have. Henry's will score by the truckload up there, and he won't get shoved out on the left wing, like at Barca.

There's be at leat 23 people on here who'd tell you he was brilliant and just what we needed. Even when it was discovered that he was an unemployed windmill operative with only one leg they'd still swear blind they'd watched him score a hat trick on ESPN.

That would need John Blackwell to have registered under 23 different names.

If you're trying to get the female fans in then we've already got Cuellar for that

Start a thread about musicals or soft-furnishings. That should flush them out.

Or Barbara Streisand.

What if Randy came back with a player from the US called Cecil, who insisted that it was pronounced See Sill; would that be a sufficiently fancy name?

Sign Jenas, give him a long haired wig and get him to change his name by dead poll to Jermainho or Jenasinho.

Job done!

Fuck Mcgeady. I dont want him or any other bang average benchwarmers. Does MON never get the sodding message? Hes already tried buying players like that ie Maloney and routledge. why not spend the money on gio dos santos or hleb if he wants a winger. Or infact fcuk the lot of em and pay for henry for a year. Free transfer who's gonna be wasted in america.

I fear im going to hate every transfer window while weve got this little penny pinching, bingo playing irishman at the helm.

We don't need a 20-year-old Dutchman with a fancy name, anyway... we've already got the brilliantly-named Arsenio Halfhuid, and he's 18!

....and what a prospect he looks too!! Hope to see him move up to the reserves!

Nicky Shorey has told Championship Nottingham Forest he is holding out for a move to the Premier League.

Left-back Shorey, 29, capped twice by England, is set to leave Aston Villa this summer.

He is wanted by Forest after a successful spell on loan from last November to January.

But Shorey would prefer a switch to Fulham in the top-flight after a loan spell there.

Fulham will move for Shorey if left-back Paul Konchesky, 29, who has 12 months left on his contract, quits.

Shorey has other Premier League suitors as well and is prepared to wait until late August to get a move to a top-flight club ahead of Forest.

express

MARTIN O'Neill has hit a transfer roadblock which is stopping his bid to build an Aston Villa challenge for Premier League glory this season.

O’Neill has been forced to agree to a sell-to-buy policy by American owner Randy Lerner, but he cannot offload any of the players he wants out the door at Villa Park to make way for fresh blood.

Lerner is still cutting back his investment at the club and £15million is the sum total of Villa’s budget for the three or four quality signings O’Neill craves for another tilt at the top four.

O’Neill is determined to bolster that budget by offloading Nigel Reo-Coker, Luke Young, Habib Beye, Curtis Davies, Steve Sidwell and Nicky Shorey.

But the hefty wages being paid to at least five of the six in the Villa Park sale are putting off potential buyers, leaving O’Neill fearing he will be unable to press ahead with his own moves for Scott Parker and Hugo Rodallega.

And that could force O’Neill into a climb-down in his war of attrition with Manchester City over the sale of James Milner.

Villa look to have handicapped themselves with the extravagant wages being paid to the fringe players O’Neill deems unsuitable for the task ahead at Villa Park.

Fulham and Wigan have both expressed an interest in former Reading left-back Shorey, who has made no secret of his desire to leave for fresh Premier League pastures.

His £5m move has knocked his career backwards, but he has been rewarded to the tune of something in the region of £35,000 a week for his inactivity in a Villa shirt.

Reo-Coker’s salary is in excess of that, but he has barely played for the club since his well-publicised spat on the training ground with O’Neill, while Davis has generated interest from newly promoted Newcastle, but carries a salary approaching £40,000 a week.

Young is a similar case. There have been questions asked about former England right-back Young by Sunderland and West Ham, but they have been put off by wages of about £45,000 a week.

Ironically, their most saleable asset is England international Milner and his £45,000-a-week wages, but that is a drop in the ocean for the billionaires at Manchester City. They are more than happy to double that to secure his services and Villa could raise some much-needed funds for their own shopping in the transfer market.

But Villa have shown no intention of shifting from their £30m valuation of Milner, which is understood to be at least £5m more than City are willing to pay.

City have warned Villa they will not go any higher than £25m and will look elsewhere if a deal cannot be struck, but Villa legend Tony Morley says it is time to cash in.

“If I was the manager I’d let him go. Six months ago he would have been happy to sign a new contract at Villa. Suddenly perhaps his head has been turned and he wants to go,” said Morley.

“Is he unhappy? We don’t know. But I can say, if there is an unhappy player and you can get £25m for him and that can go to the kitty, it might be worth considering.”
