we let one supposedly injury prone left back go and replace him with another one. seems a master plan to me.

I predict we'll see something along these lines -

Out - Luke, Shorey, Beye, Bouma, Davies, Sidwell, Salifou, Heskey, Milner

Should bring in around £45million.

Onuoha - £5m
Clyne - £1.5million
Aurelio - free
Ireland - £10million
Boussoufa - £8million
Keane - £7million

Giving us about a £15million profit. I reckon we will try for Parker but we won't be able to move Nige on for enough and Spam will want too much for him.

I'd like us to go for Boateng and Annan as well.

Theres nothing at all wrong with Beye ......

Christ sake if the manager ignores him for half a season and then plays him one game then he is unlikely to be at his best is he ?

He is more than adequate squad player and could be extremely flexable playing accross the back four....

I can think of many more players Id get rid of before Beye to be honest.

I like the look of Boussoufa as well, and Guadardo and Annan from the World Cup.

If we don't have the money to spend and are on a sell to buy policy then realistically I can't see us getting into the top 4 in those circumstances , and as such maybe top 6 would be more realistic.

City are spending big money for fun and without the cash to spend we can't compete at that level-sadly the game is now more about the richest clubs getting all the best players.

Agree. I like Beye and I'm now looking like a clown for saying what a decent signing he was.

I think we will get into a cycle with more average if competent players who won't get picked replacing the average if competent players we already have.

It's like shifting some uncomfortable deck chairs around the deck of a cruise ship.

Even with other players who we might be looking at as starters there seems to be a lack of ambition. I still remain to be convinced as to whether Robbie Keane would make a good sighing but there remains the fact that it's far from an ambitious signing.

It's not 5 years to late either. It's ten.

I'm also one who thinks Beye needs/needed at least a small run of games to get his rhythm/confidence up. I saw nothing that indicated to me that he's a muppet.

Can't see £45m in sales from that lot anyway.
Beye would have been a very useful right-sided midfielder in front of RB on a few ocasions last season (Chelsea away for a start, when we were carrying several injured players). Really don't see why we seem to be offloading both Beye and Luke Y who offer us experience solidity and a bit of flair in the defensive right area. Mad!

I think MON is in a difficult position.  He has some money to spend but probably not a lot.  He wants to keep Milner and also strengthen the side.  The trouble is that Man City are trying to take Milner from us.

The difficulty MON has is that until the Milner situation is resolved he does not know whether he has to replace Milner as well as other players.  If Milner goes, his shopping list will be quite different to the one if Milner stays.  Man City probably realised this and are keeping their bid lower than we would accept.

It is a bit like a game of poker where you are waiting for one player to make their move and show their hand.

Somehow, MON has to force the issue and the only way I can see that he can do this is to put pressure on Milner by pushing him to sign an extended improved contract so that he does not sit and wait for his contract to run down.  If Milner does not want to, it would be time to accept what we could get for Milner, even if it is less than we ideally want.

As I said above, the key to MON's transfer dealings is Milner.  If he goes, he needs two central midfield players who compliment each other, knowing that neither will be as good as Milner but the sum of the two need to be better than Milner and Petrov.  If he stays, he knows that he only needs an improvement on Petrov.  Petrov and A.N. Other will not cut it.

We cannot let this drag on and a decison needs to be made before the end of the month.

Forcing the issue with Milner is a good idea.  Offering a good contract extension and payrise will push Milner into a corner.  Either sign it or put in a transfer request and therefore forfeit the rest of his contract.

I do not think it is necessary to force Milner into handing in a transfer request.  It would be enough to just know how he feels.  If he does not want to sign an extended contract, I'm sure a deal could be worked out so that we did not get any less money than if he handed in a transfer request.

Jorge Fucile is having a great game for Uruguay tonight. Would be a great replacement if Young and Shorey depart.

I mentioned him a couple of weeks ago but the one who has impressed me everytime i've seen him for Uruguay is Diego Perez. Good battling midfielder in the middle who can play as well. He's 30 though, which is a downside.
