That's a lot of money for an unproven winger.

Did you say that when we paid £9m for Ashley ?

Well, i'm sure a few of us thought it seemed a lot at the time. Mind you, i thought we'd paid too much for Milner.

And currently probably worse than Ashley was when he signed. Not a great peak.

McGeady would be the purchase of a manager fresh out of ideas. a desperation buy.

No need to sign another winger- let's improve central midfield, right back and striker before anything else -I'd happily play with one winger and 3 central midfielders than expose ourselves through the middle with the 2 wide men that mon seems to prefer.

Downing has I believe played well at central midfield for boro and might be worth a go in the milner role but he needs to toughen up and get his bottle back in the tackle.

All the more reason to avoid him then - he is shit.

Just a thought - imagine if we signed Keane and Miguel in this window. We'd never be in the papers again, that's all we're linked with.

if citeh are going for arteta intead of milner as the papers reckon, it will be intereting to see mon sort out the reserves mess without the big influx of cash and also how much we actually have got to spend.

Not McGeady please....we need players to hit the ground running and SPL is not the place to shop for those players as Petrov/Maloney and Cuellar all proved.

I might be in a minority here but I'd sell Milner in a heartbeat (puts on tin hat!!!), I love his attitude but still feel his game is 80% running around 20% quality...from day one I've liked the idea of cash plus Stephen Ireland for Milner...now they have proved they are on the way to the asylum with 220k a week for a defensive midfielder I would like to see us try it on and get De Jong / Ireland and say £10-12m for Milner.

The big concern for me is still whether MoN is capable of finding us a better quality striker to compete with Gabby and Fonz.

As one paper, the usually innaccurate Mirror, reckons, in the face of all other newspaper reports for the past two to three months.

Gareth - on strikers, apparently they really rate Weimann and think that Gabby is ready. The idea then would be Keane as a reasonably versatile short-term signing. And anyway, they'd hope to play Gabby mostly as the furthest forward with a three of Petrov, Ireland and someone else.
