The only way I would want Santa Cruz would be if it was on a pay-as-you-play deal. I like the idea of having Gabby as the hold-up striker and having someone play off him though.

Evening, having a few wicked days in Windsor..

One player we have been watching , I didnt say we are going to sign , so dont jump on me is ,  Santa Cruz and yes I know he has been shite lately...

Firstly, get yourself up to Browns in Windsor - the standard of crumpet in there esp. in the summer is amazing (assuming you're a) a bloke and/or b) interested in ladies

Secondly, yes, Santa Cruz would be great...I'd take him no doubt about it

Fook Des, I was there 45 minutes ago and yes the crumpet is fantastic, especially in todays weather...    had to go and buy sunglasses to hide my wandering eyes from the GF.. ;-))  I do think they prefer the man with the bulging wallet thou..

I only had one other thing bulging ;-))

I agree. Too injury prone for my liking and he only has had one decent season as a goalscorer in his career. One swallow doesn't make a summer.

According to that Mysteryman bloke in the Other Place the plan is Gabby with Ireland behind as that crucial creativity we're lacking. Sounds nice to me.

Really? That sounds great if I'm honest.

I had started to think we weren't after Ireland based on what I'd heard.

I just wonder who would be the third midfielder.

Could work well. Brings back that solidility we had when we played 4-5-1/4-3-3 and I think everyone recognises that Ireland brings qualities that we're missing - mainly his ability to play through balls that others don't seem to see.

Maybe Delph when he returns from fitness. I'd hope we get someone better than Sidwell, but oh well.

In my view Ireland's annus mirabilis was creatively better than Milner's last year. He doesn't have the tactical versatility or team-work brain of Milner, but technically and in terms of ideas he was much better.

sorry maz but you're too much like hard work and i'm scared you'll go off on a tangent again like your bent rant the other week

but just so you know what we were talking about

1. i think it would cost us 25m to get a top striker, midfielder, and right-back
2. i don't think lerner would make those funds available out of his pocket given the massive losses
3. we could get that sort of money by selling players but then we'd need to replace those players

simples

What Bent rant? What in christs name are you on about now?
greg, it isnt me that's hard work its the effort of trying not to use your arse to think with.

This is a forum not a fucking gregnash Q&A. But in answer to your points:

1- I dont care. You quoted me and claimed I said we'd spend £25m net when I said no such thing. But your figures may be right, it might cost that to get those players. I never said otherwise. So?

2- Yes and whilst that's a fair enough point of view, you're guessing and using dubious figures to argue a point. Which is what was actually being contradicted. Your figures for what we spent on Collins, Dunne and Warnock are wrong and you even forgot several players we spent £20m on. Such as Downing, Delph and Beye. But never mind.

no more dubious than yours. you're just guessing as i am, but at least i researched what they were reported to have been bought for. with the barry and gardner money it still don't come to 25m nett

3- Well, I wasnt arguing this point but Randy has already said there is money to spend on the team. That was before any sales or FxPro deal, yes? What losses he makes and how he handles them is his business. They're his losses. Also, he can easily take them and still provide funding. No problem.
Not forever, but this summer, yes, if he wants to. You certainly dont know either way but what we do have is him saying there is money to spend. So I'll go with that.

As for the figure spent.
I couldnt give a toss if we made a £30m net profit this summer as long as the team is worthy at the end of it. It means nothing to me.

fair enough. i just don't think we'll spend 25m nett which is what we need imo if we're going to get top4. my guess is 10-15m plus what we sell of the deadwood and to replace them will cost as well

I thought Santa Cruz was older than 28. Hmm...

I dont know. It doesnt inspire like it might have a few years ago. If he could get back to 07/08 form he'd be some asset but his record otherwise doesnt fill me with any confidence.

I don't know if I posted it on here or somewhere else but I had the idea that we'd sign a new defensive midfielder who would play with Petrov. Petrov would go to a role as more of a playmaker which Delph would take over the next season.
