well lerner has said spending will go down in the 'great plan' . i've no idea where you're getting those figures from. 5m for collins, dunne 5m, warnock 6m+ add ons. take the barry and gardner fee out the equation and you got roughly 15-17m. tell you what if we spend 25m nett like you seem to reckon, then remind me of this post, if not i'll remind you :0)

1- Lerner has said no such thing. He hasnt laid out any set guidelines to spending except hinted you expect to spend less in year three then year two or something. A throwaway remark and hardly set in stone is it? In any case you miss the intent. He's not saying spending will go down but that Villa will be able to pay for it without him as time goes by because our income will cope with it. Then again, he is Ellis in disguise so who knows?

2- Ive no idea where your figures are from. Mine are pretty accurate. You've also left out Beye, Downing and Delph. What's the issue anyway? Only a complete moron would doubt Randy has spent big money.
Maybe he's going to watch all his investment disappear down the shitter by neglecting to invest properly. Yeah, that's it. He has no idea what he's doing after all and blundered into this thing ill informed.

3- I have not claimed we'll spend any particular figure. You are confused, again. What has £25m got to do with anything and why is that figure relevant?

forgetting the reserves and taking for granted that milner was staying. 1st team wise i think we'd need a top striker, a replacement for petrov and a top right-back. that to my mind would cost 25m, and we won't spend that

We spent £20m on 3 defenders last pre-season, so i don't see any reason why not.

erm it was nearer 15m, and that was more or less covered by the barry fee. without sales of players we have to replace anyway there's  nothing like 25m knocking around i reckon

Collins - £5.5m. Dunne - £6m. Warnock - £7.5m. I make that about £19m.
Then you take away Barrys £12m, add the £7m for Delph, £12m for Downing, £2.5m for Beye... how much is that net Greg?

And how would you know what there is to spend? How much of the sponsorship is available? How much does Randy fancy putting in out of the several billion he has access to? Do you know? You'd be the only one outside the innermost chambers then.

What we do know there is money to spend and we usually spend a fair bit without the increased income to the club this last year.

And the £7m on Delph?

And the £12million on Downing.

I have no doubt we will have funds available but I reckon anything we do will be distorted by the £25-30million for Milner and the £20million + we might receive for the dead wood.

That's at least £45million there never mind the £25million Greg has plucked out of thin air. Enough for what we need this window IMO. Even excluding any new funds we have the FXPro money too so MoN is hardly going to be searching the back of the sofa.

greg, I think you're just getting wound up because you're a bit confused and you're tying yourself up in knots with your own bullshit.

But you calling me an idiot and a wind up merchant is so hilarious its almost cute.
So I'm going to figuratively grab your cheek and go "awwww".

sorry maz but you're too much like hard work and i'm scared you'll go off on a tangent again like your bent rant the other week

but just so you know what we were talking about

1. i think it would cost us 25m to get a top striker, midfielder, and right-back
2. i don't think lerner would make those funds available out of his pocket given the massive losses
3. we could get that sort of money by selling players but then we'd need to replace those players

MON does like Santa Cruz who lets be honest is not going to get into the Man City team, however he has injury problems and is in a poor run of form for some time now,
If we could get him for a knock down price maybe worth a punt if not no.

What Bent rant? What in christs name are you on about now?
greg, it isnt me that's hard work its the effort of trying not to use your arse to think with.

This is a forum not a fucking gregnash Q&A. But in answer to your points:

1- I dont care. You quoted me and claimed I said we'd spend £25m net when I said no such thing. But your figures may be right, it might cost that to get those players. I never said otherwise. So?

2- Yes and whilst that's a fair enough point of view, you're guessing and using dubious figures to argue a point. Which is what was actually being contradicted. Your figures for what we spent on Collins, Dunne and Warnock are wrong and you even forgot several players we spent £20m on. Such as Downing, Delph and Beye. But never mind.

3- Well, I wasnt arguing this point but Randy has already said there is money to spend on the team. That was before any sales or FxPro deal, yes? What losses he makes and how he handles them is his business. They're his losses. Also, he can easily take them and still provide funding. No problem.
Not forever, but this summer, yes, if he wants to. You certainly dont know either way but what we do have is him saying there is money to spend. So I'll go with that.

As for the figure spent.
I couldnt give a toss if we made a £30m net profit this summer as long as the team is worthy at the end of it. It means nothing to me.

Firstly, get yourself up to Browns in Windsor - the standard of crumpet in there esp. in the summer is amazing (assuming you're a) a bloke and/or b) interested in ladies

Secondly, yes, Santa Cruz would be great...I'd take him no doubt about it
