Eduardo could be a potentially genius signing.

Imagine him next to Gabby, cutting in from the left ala David Villa is for Spain at the World Cup.

Ashley and another (presuming Milner's going) feeding him.

Would love that. Could be the hero we've lacked for years.

Could mean Gabby be pushed right up too, where we've seen his best form.

Something like -

---------------------------Petrov
--------------Ireland
Ashley-------------------------------Downing
--------------------------Eduardo
---------------Gabby

Hopefully Gabriel isn't taking his foot off the gas and is doing what he's done the last few Summers to work on his game. He's got the pace, strength and leap on him, working on his finishing and movement would be nice over this Summer!

'Aston Villa are tracking Arsenal striker Eduardo and are chasing West Ham's Scott Parker and Bayer Leverkusen ace Tranquillo Barnetta.'

Like Parker, not sure about the other 2

I'm sure you meant "Like the other 2, not sure about Parker". With players like Parker (who is good but not excellent) we are not going to threat top teams, not even ManCity and Spurs i'm afraid

No, I'm pretty sure he meant what he said.

Parker's just had a great season at Wham, Eduardo has had a major injury and is yet to look like the player he was before, and I and 99.99% of the people who post on this board have probably never seen enough of Tranquillo Barnetta to form an opinion.

I dont see why not. Parker is better than Palacios and as good as de Jong.
He's a really good player, committed and talented. What he isnt is a long term solution. I love Petrov but would consider Parker an upgrade in the holding position.
Also, he's a sure thing in this league whereas Eduardo might never fully recover from his injury and Barnetta has never played here. So I can fully understand Murgsy's comments.

EDIT: And whilst I was typing all that, Lee said it for me!

I heavily disagree with this last comment of yours, especially the comparison with De Jong.

I wouldn't mind us signing Parker, don't get me wrong, but he must not be THE big signing of the summer. If that's the case, we're out of the race so to speak next season, I'm afraid.

Parker is the sort of player that would improve us without transforming us - an upgrade on Petrov, and not a huge one IMO, but hardly going to solve our problem of breaking teams down.  However, were we to sign him as a Sidwell/NRC replacement, he could allow the other more 'exciting' signings, such as strikers and attacking midfielders, to get on with the job of winning matches for us.

On his own he wouldn't do anything for us, but as the more mundane part of an overall influx of players, he'd make good sense!

I'm not entirely convinced on Barnetta if I'm being honest. He's a decent winger. He may be an upgrade on Downing (even on that, I'm not sure), but he's not a patch on Ashley. I think if we're buying a wideman we should look for someone better. Would someone better come? Who knows.

Bloody hell, thought I'd log on this morning and see some sort of link to the site which has the David Silva 60 goalscoring chances created stats. Disappointing.

Barnetta... this guy's starting to crop up everywhere. My son's got about 8 'Match Attax' 'swapsies' of him - he turns up in every packet we buy - and now he's been linked with the Villa. Spooky. Barely saw anything of him in the WC but liked him at the last Euros (I think it was). Got a bit of flair about him, a playmaker. One of the qualities we need next season.

FORGOTTEN man Isaiah Osbourne will give his claret and blue career one last go when he returns for the final year of his contract next week.

Osbourne has been nowhere near the Villa first team since brief cameos in the Peace Cup tournament in Spain almost 12 months ago.

But the 22-year-old midfielder will report for pre-season training with Villa’s senior squad next Thursday determined to make an impression.

well we dont need to buy any midfielders then  ;-o

He always showed a fair amount of promise and there's still a decent player in there somewhere. But sadly he's a bit of an idiot.
