WTF is going on with villa? I reckon with man shitty signing these players some other decent players will get pushed out of the team like petrov, so clubs will have a close eye on them. Yet I am starting to run out if hope with MON we are getting no one and nowhere is he on holiday or is he too busy watching the world cup and not actually watching BUYABLE players we need a solid striker and a RB not cuellar or else we will go downhill VERY fast, is anyone else losing patience with MON or is it just me?

Petrov's already been released and has signed for Bolton.

I'm not even expecting us to sign anyone before late July to be honest.

I know I meant that he was released as they had better players so if they release more then we should dive in there for them

It's the first of July tomorrow ... We've still got one and a half months before the start of the season.

We should all know by now that MON doesn't rush things, especially signings.

A manager who is decisive, who shows he knows what he's doing in the market, who spends money wisely, who gets value for the millions he splashes out... any of the above would be nice. MON fills none of these criteria. I honestly couldn't care less if we sign anyone this window, because there's no way on God's green earth he's going to sign the players we need to progress.

I'm sure that's been said at the close of and during many summer windows over the past few years, yet we always have progressed.

MON won't be rushed you should know that by now, August is when you will see players coming in although a few are likely to leave first.

The Eduardo link genuinely surprised me. If MON is after him that'd be a sign that maybe he is willing to change his ways as a manager. We need an intelligent player who's good on the ball to bring out the best in some of the others. I had resigned myself to the fact that such a player would not be brought in by MON...this gives me a flicker of hope even if it is just a rumour.

To comment on Milner, I suspect he will be at Man City too. I think this will be a bad move for all concerned. He will be there as a sop gap until they buy somebody better next year. If Milner has any sense he will stay with villa where he will have regular football and a decent shout of success. We made Wembley twice last year, did Gareth Barry
and Man City?

More worrying for me is the prospect of loosing both Milner and Gabby. I could deal with us loosing Milner and having a shed load of money to invest in the squad, loosing Gabby too would be too big of a hit. Where will we find somebody else with his pace?

It's still early days and most clubs haven't made too many major moves yet.  I only worry when I see players moving where I think we should/could have bought them - and that hasn't happened yet!

Patience is required this time, a) because we don't desperately need the 6 or 7 players we have needed for each of the previous 3 MON summers and b) because there is a world cup on. Enjoy the world cup and forget about transfers until it's over. I know i am.
I do agree with your comment on Luke Young though, if we sell him it will be a big disappointment.

I got the impression he was decisive.  When he wants someone, it gets done.  Maybe you are looking for a wishy washy manager that is genuinely linked with a lot of players.  I want someone who thinks he knows best, decides what he needs and goes and gets it, with minimal paper coverage to push prices up and unsettle players.  I read somewhere that Leeds were very impressed with how he handled the Delph signing, which is what I want to hear, not a Rafa, piss everyone off, and then not even follow through.

Agree, for the most part. I don't think this is the way to go that right after the season ends our staff seems to go on a holiday for a month or so. I'm not sure if this is really the case but every year it seems like that. Of course if MON has set his sights on another Salifou then no hurry. He'll still be well available a couple days before the first game of the season.

I don't see Gabby leaving. I don't think anyone will bid enough to turn our heads, and he won't request leaving. I hope not anyway. But it's essentiall we keep him, and more so Ashley Young.

But selling Milner and buying 3x10 mill midfielders could sort our middle out entirely. Some steel, some guile, and another wideman to push Downing and Ash. It'll take 2 players to replace what Milner gives us, and would probably be more effeciient as such. Replacing Ash would be extremely difficult, because wingers as good as him are not exactly a dime a dozen. Particularly in O Neill's market. I genuinely think Ash, on his day is one of the best wingers in the world.

The German lad Boateng, David Silva and Milner already in the bag - City are going to be some force next season. And I bet they haven't finished yet.

Eduardo I like. Is he the player he was before that injury? I don't know because I don't think he's been given the chance to show it, he's been used rather sparingly by Arsenal. But he's an intelligent striker and a great finisher.

Gabby won't be going to Man Citeh, Milner will go though.

Robbie Keane in August.

It worries me immensely he's behind Bendtner in the pecking order. He's not been the same since he came back, but by the same token, given a run in the side, which at Villa, if he makes a decent enough impression early, is likely, he could be top class again. I'd risk it for a decent price.
Would be as good a forward as we'll get linked to this summer to be honest.

I'd forgotten about him. Only thing I will say is that they're signing a few like-for-like sorts.... combative central midfielder Nigel De Jong? Let's get combative central midfielder Yaya Toure! Attacking left winger Adam Johnson? Let's get attacking left winger David Silva! They'll have plenty of strength in depth and options, put it that way.

Interesting to see whether Barry will be a bench-warmer next season. You almost hope that's the case...
