I wonder if it made him question 4-4-2? I hope so.

I wonder if it made him think of breaking the bank for an ambitious swoop for Ozil.

No... No he'll be looking at breaking the bank on some British based dross.

Yes why would we want some quality!? it's a shame we only look at players with premier league experience.

Fair enough Sandman, i have only seen Edu a couple of times, and he has played defensive midfielder in both.He looks to me as if he can develop in that role, but he would'nt be my priority.......but i would buy Bradley.

I think MONs team next year will have a lot more mobility up front, and better ball retention in midfield, with better attacking FBs.That is the way Brazil play, and i think the way to follow.

The guy on VillaTalk says MON wants to dispense with Carew and Heskey, and have more mobility.

More mobility would be wonderful, and it's clearly the way football is heading. But I'm not getting my hopes up.

Deph, Delf, AYoung, Gabby , Downing, Milner, all mobile versatile footballers, add a good footballer and at least 1 attacking FB, with Albrighton coming through as well, the future is bright.

And even if they leave I'd say most of them will play a big part for the national team.

Bayern Munich usually gobble up the Bundesliga's better other players.

totally agree with this, all those players for england yest were the old generation....Villa are all about the new generation!! maybe not this year but next will be Villa's time.

if we keep hold of Young, Milner and Gabby though

I can't explain this UK-only policy of ours in any other way than that our scouting staff all must suffer from 1) flight, 2) ship and 3) train fobias. Too bad. Hopefully they build a bridge across the channel soon so our guys can cross it with their bicycles

Could you imagine Ozil in a villa shirt? he's exactly what we lack. We lack creativity and guile.

I hope MOn gets over his fixation with British and Irish players. Aidan McGeady, who I saw us linked with recently, is not the answer we are looking for either.

Do you really think it is the scouts decision where they go and what they scout for ?

Are we criticising O'Neill for not being in for Ozzil, when as SHQ has already pointed out, much bigger clubs (that cannot beat us in Europe! Ner ner!) closer to his home will be snapping him up?

As that would be quite ridiculous.

Oezil's astonishing, and I've been saying this for two and a half years now (which gives me a lot of joy - my brother still smugly goes on about spotting Sneijder before anyone else 'out of the game' did). There may be a feeling that the time to sign him was a couple of years ago, when he went from Schalke to Bremen for £3.5m, but I think that would be a fallacy. There's nothing to say his temperament could have handled moving country at such a young age, and anyway, the Premier League is clearly not the place for a player of his type to develop, it's too violent.

Hleb would be perfect, Hleb and Montolivo (especially if Jimbo goes) would be terrific. I think they're the right age and level of development (Hleb's at the end of his peak, Montolivo's approaching the beginning of his) to have an immediate and then long term impact.
