If we had McGeady I would hope we would go 4-5-1 with him playing wide and Downing behind the front two.

Are you drunk?

Downing behind the front 2? Even though it's a 4-5-1?

Downing and McGeady on the pitch together? Seem pretty much similar and very average players to me.

I do think Downing is a good player that just needs a good pre-season and then to settle in.

I think McGeady is a rich man's Nigel Callaghan. And you know what they say about a fool and his money.

If he puts in another performance or 2 like the other day £28mill won't be enough, Ferdinand and Berbatov were over 30mill, and what did City pay for Tevez? £50 mill?

McGeady is nowhere near the level of player needed at Villa. I doubt he is even at Bloose level.
Please God NO.

Villa line up Celtic star McGeady as Milner replacement
Published 22:50 24/06/10 By James Nursey

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill may move for Celtic star Aiden McGeady if he can generate enough cash from player sales.

Villa have put a clutch of squad men including Nigel Reo-Coker, Luke Young, Steve Sidwell and Curtis Davies up for sale to raise funds.

O'Neill is after another talented attacking midfielder as James Milner is certain to leave Villa after the World Cup - with Man City his likely destination.

And former Celtic manager O'Neill has earmarked his old protege McGeady as a potential replacement.

Republic of Ireland international McGeady, 24, is poised to leave Celtic this summer after coming through the ranks.

Russian club Spartak Moscow have enquired about his services but the £10million-rated star wants to move to the Premier League.

And McGeady this week changed agent by signing up with Struan Marshall to get him a dream move to England.

Marshall also represents Stewart Downing and Emile Heskey, who have moved to Villa Park in the last 18 months.

Marshall gets on well with Villa manager O'Neill, who bossed Celtic from 2000-2005, and his other clients include Robbie Keane.

Now McGeady could be poised to link-up again with O'Neill in the Midlands providing Villa owner Randy Lerner manages to move on several stars.

Sidwell is likely to be the first departure as Fulham close in on his signature in a £3m deal - as revealed by Mirrorsport last week.

McGeady could expect to earn around £50,000-a-week if he moves to Villa on a four-year deal.

But his possible arrival would not entail winger Ashley Young leaving as Villa are determined to keep the star this summer.

My problem with this story are the highligted bits, If we sell Milner we can easily afford McGeady as we'd have £25-£30m in the bank. My worry would be replacing Milner with a load of old shit

Maloney is/was a better player than McGeady.

Nowhere near good enough for a top 6 club.

Defour could be worth a punt. He looked a very good player until hit with injury. If Milner does go I think he'd be a decent replacement.

I agree.

Prince-Boateng has caught my eye this world cup. He would make a magnificent squad player.

I still however, hold a grudge against him for that missed penalty when I had money on him being first goalscorer in the FA Cup final.

Have'nt seen many better gettable players than Bradley tbh.

Would'nt be too disappointed with Altadore and Donovan either, and i think that Edu has a lot of potential as well.

Edu could grow into a very good holding midfield player.

Boateng I like every time he plays and we should be in for him as he would replace Jimmy well IMO.

Its always a risky game buying players on the back of a good World Cup. Any players bought after the competition should be because of what they have done before, not during the World Cup.

I know it is all about opinions but I can't believe anyone thinks Altidore would be a decent signing.

I watched him play for Hull once and he looked great. From what I understand I witnessed a one off.
