The problem with negotiating with Spurs is that it won't be Harry Redknapp you'll be dealing with, it'll be Daniel Levy. He'll ring every penny out of whoever ends up buying Keane.

Then we walk away and move onto the next target. I like Robbie Keane, I think he'll do a good job for us if we get him. But if the price starts going above £7-8m then we have to consider there's better value elsewhere, even if it means spending more money.

Correct.

Indeed. And every pound more they want for Keane goes onto Davies value.

Exactly, and you can guarantee if Levy doesn't agree with Davies' price he'll walk away. We can't be mugged off by any of our comings and goings.

I'm starting to wonder if Keane maybe a back up option for someone else? I would have thought there'd be more whispers than there has been if he was a first choice.

When I heard knock down price I got excited. If they are so desperate to sell him I think they can go lower.

That said I'd consider a straight swap for Davies. As we get a body in up front and rid of a defender who we probably don't need.

In my view however I'd actually like to keep Davies. Strength in depth at centre half means we can rest Dunney or Collins or Cuellar and play Davies. If Clark develops, we can a few years down the line partner him with a more experienced Davies as a first choice pairing.

Would be great If MON would actually rest players once in a while..

Why would we sell Davies cheaply?
He's a good player. Potentially very good and with his best years ahead of him.

I'd say he's a good player on his day, but there's always a (good) chance he'll have a nightmare.  At 25, his progress appears to have stalled, and he is now 5th choice in his position at Villa. £4m-£5m would be as much as we could reasonably expect to get back.

We got 5m for Cahill who had played a lot less premier league games than Davies has. Would hold out for 6m tbh.

I don't know what has happened to Davies.  He apparently recovered from his shoulder injury but never got a look in.  Whether that was because of Collins impressing MON or the business with his agent demanding a new contract before it was due and a decision therefore to sell him and not give him a new contract I really do not know.

I think he is a better centre half than Collins and Cuellar and will be sad to see him go.  I fear he will be another Cahill.  Will improve wherever he goes and be an England candidate sooner or later.

With the defence playing as well as they did. O'Neill had no reason to bring him back in. I doubt there was anything more to it than that

Davies is a good defender who will get better, his passing is poor.
Cuellar is a very good defender who is also mobile.
Collins is a good defender who is not mobile but his passing is very good.
Dunne is a very good defender and a leader.

That is why Curtis is currently 4th choice imo.

I think the club have just decided to cash in on Davies as if he's still 3rd or 4th choice next season, he'll start playing up and slap in a transfer request.

Not too fussed if he goes as an experience trio of Dunney, Cuellar (as a centre half) and Collins is more than good enough and I rate Clark very highly so would like to see him play more games next season.

I see Keane is off to Newcastle then.  Good to see Duff showing
him how to " fog on the Tyne ".  That has gotta help.
