We have bought many young players in who have potential to improve and some have, some haven't, Guzan, Davies, Downing, Collins, Milner, Young, Shorey, Delph etc.  Sometimes we need experienced players alongside them hence Dunne, Friedel and hopefully Keane.  Keane's 15 goals could easily get us into the champs league, thats 10 more than Heskey got last term.

If were were rumoured to be signing a player who had just scored 16 in 19 in chile/belgium/holland or some other such naff league like the Scots I'm sure everyone would be excited.  Keane's done that plus we all know he's a class act who is suited to the pl.

Albrighton over Petrov?  Based on what?  Until the kids come in and do great things we need to assume they are on the fringes and have a decent depth of squad excluding them.  If they are good enough they will break through regardless of who's in their way, see Rooney, Rodwell, A Cole etc.

You can't simply think that the manager is doing a good job, some of the fuckwits on here have to give you a witless little nickname, like Happy-clappers or, probably the worst one so far, MONettes.

The fucking MONgols.

Outstanding.

Signing the likes of Jermaine Beckford and Martin Petrov are not going to get us into the top 4, how ever cheap they maybe.

better than the reserves currently here

Given the choice between Petrov and Beckford or Albrighton and Delfouneso, I'd take our youngsters every time!

if petrov does arrive, no doubt we'll hear you moan yet again about MON's signings.

or maybe not....

No you'll hear me say "OK then - let's judge him by what he does for us"

Which is what I said about Dunne last year when I didn't want him and we signed him.

and there you have it. you don't care enough about villa that us signing a player who you think isn't even good enough in your opinion to lace the boots of an unproven youth player isn't something worth querying. classic MONette behavior

We've been down the Martin Petrov road before with the likes of Berger, Hadji, Kachloul etc....

With the amount of clubs that Keane's been at, he was bound to be less of a success at one of them sooner or later. He was'nt Rafa's only flop. They just paid far far too much for him. As long as we don't fall into that trap, he'd be a good addition to the squad.

Sorry, let me see if I can break down that absurdly long sentence, in order to try and work out what ridiculous point you're trying to make this time:-

If I'm getting it right, my choice to give a new signing a chance and judge them on what they do in a Villa shirt, despite any misgivings I had in signing them, shows that I don't care enough?  I never said Petrov 'wasn't fit to lace' the boots of Albrighton, just that I'd prefer to have a young up and comer in the squad, who can improve into a first team player, over a 31 year old I don't overly rate and has had injury problems.

And at least I care enough to go and watch them, greg!

EDIT: and the querying comes in forums like this where we debate a players attributes, but that doesn't stop us giving him a fair crack of the whip if they do ultimately sign!

Plus FSW didn't want him there!

Keane for the right sort of price (£7-8M) would be a signing that takes us forward and improves us by giving us an option to the strikers we have already.

Who cares what the spuds or 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' fans think, let's see how he does in our shirt IF he comes here.

Agree Clampy, we don't have a Keane type player at our disposal, someone who links the forward line and the midfield. I know transfer fees shouldn't bother me too much, but I think paying more than 7-8m for him would be excessive, even in todays over inflated prices. But If he comes in and scores 15 league goals, which I believe he's more than capable of and we continue to progress as we have, then I'll be more than happy and indeed clappy.

sorry john but when you describe a possible signing in as harsh as terms as i've managed with Keane and yet you'll just go "oh well" if he signs, it just smacks of not having an opinion you're prepared to stick with if it conflicts with the managers

You don't have to apologise to me - I'm sure it's all down to E numbers, radio masts, or something!

In your limited little world I'm sure it does, but then if you can't see the difference between 'Oh well - he must be good if Martin wanted him" and "Not who I wanted, but lets give the bloke a chance to prove me wrong" then there's no hope for you.

you don't think someone who's not as good as allbrighton would be worth a bit more ire than "not what i wanted" think of all that money in wages he's going to cost us.

come on john, he's signed a really rubbish player, try to care.....

edit: imagine his wages stopped us buying Keane

He's not saying he's not as good as Albrighton, just that he would rather a young player with promise was preferred to a more expensive, older, if better, player.  Just like I'm sure Beckford is a better player right now than Fonz, but as he's 26ish I doubt he'll improve much and reckon Fonz will be a better player than him in 12-18 months.  But if M'ON signed Beckford because he wanted a more immediate impact on our goalscoring this season then I'd at least wait and see what the bloke produced.

Yeah, come on John, then you can be a real supporter like greg.

(Albeit a Chelsea supporter).
