16 goals in 19 games for Celtic suggest he may have regained his lost momentum.  Yes it's only Scotland but goals are everything for strikers, his confidence must be sky high after scoring that many in so few games.

Owen had quite visibly lost pace and suffered terrible injury problems. Whatever Keane may have lost is not so obvious to me anyway and his scoring record since returning from Liverpool is as consistent as it was at any point in his career. Of course, as he gets older he will lose something but he's 29, not 33.

well thirty in about 10 days but hey-ho. just worries me immensely that we may spend 8-10-15m? on a striker who whatever the stats say hasn't been playing well for 2 years which is more time than heskey's been crap and hoping we can get him back to top form in a competitive league  and keep him there for 3 years to have any chance of getting some VFM out of him. If it happens i think it a move born out of desperation personally.

Owen scored more goals than Heskey, Marlon and Fonz combined, so I don't get that argument Greg, with Owen we would probably have been more successful last season.  Because of Owen's injury problems Keane is the better bet now to score more goals for us, and they could be absolutely vital.

3 goals in 19 apps in hardly impressive when people were claiming he'd get a hatful with all the assists from the quality players round him. doubt he would have managed 3 at villa

I dont think we'll be spending a huge sum on him. Certainly nothing over £10m. We're not idiots.

You have to consider what he'll be like at Villa rather than what he's been like recently, which hasnt been poor anyway.

He lives locally I think, he will be amongst friends, he'll thrive under MON I feel as he is exactly the sort of player MON loves and MON is the type of manager Keabue understands. He's committed (sometimes annoyingly so), he's always at it and he has a lot of ability. Also he is the type of player we lack. Had we had him last season we may have finished in the top 4, who knows.

The other bonus is that we have young players who will learn from him and their being there will mean we can afford to have a slightly older player.

I really dont see the problem. But yes, if we can do better great. I will be delighted. Until then, Keane makes sense to me. Perfect sense. I hope somebody like Dzeko comes in, or we push the financial boat out, swallow our pride and get Darren Bent but unless that happens Keane will suit Villa and Villa will suit Keane.

I also hope that someone like Dzeko comes in, but can't see it happening.

I have looked at the stats and

1)16 goals in 53 games isn't impressive especially when you consider he's hardly going to be getting more chances to score in our side and his age
2)he only played so few games at spurs because he was bobbins
3)i tend to trust the fans opinion here as well as pure stats and if spurs and liverpool fans think he's bobbins then i reckon there's some truth in it.

1) 1 in 3 when in and out of a side under managers that didn;t really want him?  Decent enough to me.
2) No, that's just your opinion, which once again you seem to be confusing with fact0
3) I once had a chat with a Spurs fan who told me Tom Huddlestone was the new Glen Hoddle.[/quote]

well you'd better hope any managers looking at sidwell, heskey etc.. have the same low opinion of our fans views. if they don't then we'll never get rid of them

Without wishing to gatecrash the party, what the fuck has that got to do with the price of cabbage?

You're getting ripped about the signing of Keane (and I agree with you), so you wobble on to safer ground and dig at Heskey and Sidwell?

That's lame. In fact....

*LAMEPALM*

just pointing out its daft to ignore the opinions of the people who watch players week-in week-out

As we know a lot of people who post prolifically on forums never go to a game.

The discussion is about Robbie Keane not Michael Owen.  Owen's issue was and is injuries as opposed to any lack of ability.  Keane does not not have those injury problems, so it's a pointless comparison.

As it goes, I was against the Owen signing this time last year.

As someone who watches Villa "week in week-out" I'll let you know in due course what opinions to hold as it would be daft to ignore me.

Owen scored 9 last season and would have surely scored more for Villa as he would have played more.  Keane's record was fantastic at Spurs first time, good at Liverpool, good second time at Spurs and fantastic at Celtic, so even if it reverts to only being good at Villa, those 15 goals a season will do nicely thank you very much.  Gabby's best season was 16 goals and he's got to be worth £25 mill plus, Keane with his ability at £8 mill, we could not get better value anywhere imo.  Knows the league, the area etc etc.  Gabby and Fonz need a clever experienced striker to learn from and not just the two target men we have currently.

Owen didn't play much because he was injured and the fact that Sir Alex said he'd never start with Rooney and Owen together as he thinks they are very similar.
