if MON pays anymore than 7m for him then he deserves to be put in a padded cell with Randy in the next one for giving him the money. thought we were past signing hasbeens.

The ideal position for Keane would be just behind the strikers

I agree.

Someone else's strikers.

Keane is on the downward slope now. Hopefully at some point this summer we'll make an ambitious signing for a change rather opting for the predictable every time.

I appreciate the effectiveness of our signings, before anyone suggests otherwise, but wouldn't it be nice to show a little ambition? Ambition doesn't mean signing Lionel Messi either. Just players from a higher level than we have now.  More of the same will not be enough to push us on.

When looking at a forward perhaps it's best to ask the question "Would you be worried if he was in the opposition team?"
I'd say no about Keane.

I'm sick of the arguement about having big lumps who make chances for other players. Spain look ok with Torres and Villa.

I've lived throught Olney, Cascarino and Ormondroyd and don't want a repeat. (Although I did enjoy that era)

With Xavi & Iniesta pulling the strings they do.

Keane is hardly a big lump is he?
Although yes, lets go and get Torres and Villa.

This just won't happen. Unfortunately MON has proved that. The last time we signed anybody like that was Ashley Young wasn't it? Unfortunately now there are far more attractive propositions for these sort of players.

Why? We were in the bottom half of the table when he signed.

He may sign someone who we don't consider a big name signing but goes on to be a world beater. He's got previous.

Why all the brow beating and pessimism? I genuinely don't understand, I have a mental picture of some of the keenest posters on this thread walking around with a mini grey cloud continuously pouring rain on their heads.

I fail to see how Keane is a has been, he's scored goals wherever he's been.

Hasbeen.

On a downward spiral.

Not an exciting signing.

Are we talking about Robbie Keane or have I accidentally found a wormhole that has taken me to the Richard Dunne thread circa summer 2009?

People are basing it on the fact that he's been on loan at Celtic without taking into account that he fell out with Redknapp. They also tell us that Harry wouldn't be selling him if he was any good. The same people spent last season moaning that we hadn't signed Darren Bent.

Don't get me wrong I think he's signed a couple of decent players recently but none were particularly exciting signing were they? The only boxes that seem to be ticked by MON when it comes to signing players are Solid & Reliable....

I, personally, wouldn't sign Keane. If we did, I'd be concerned about paying more than £5-6m.

But I don't think we'll sign him anyway.

If we are going to buy a nomadic striker then at least get a more effective one

I would make a bid for Anelka - now he has scored goals wherever he has been (Mainly against us) and has pace

I am also convinced that Doyle will be with us - he has the perfect credentials for MON

I'd much rather sign Doyle than Keane. I'd rather Anelka than both but I don't think that would happen in a million years.
