I don't think we should pay more than £8m if we are to bid for Robbie Keane.

I wish it was Forlan, but that aint gonna happen. Keane offers similar traits, just without that dash of South American class.

I do think Keane could do well here though. Keep his ego in check, and he'll get plenty of goals.

If people are arguing against Keane due to his age/price, then imagine what the 2 year old Forlan would cost after this World Cup?  And that is without taking into account the big question mark over whether he is unsuited to PL football following his time with Man U.

I know he has baby smooth latino skin but he's a bit older than that I think.

He's 31. But he comes from a wealthy family back in U-R-Gay so he most probably had an easy paperound and good diet, and given that he'll probably be class until he's about 40.

Take him for a tour round Four Oaks, give him Dave Ginola's old contract and wallop, job done.

I think somewhere between £8-10M is about right for him.  If it's £18m we should walk away and look elsewhere!

If it is £18m then MON should leave through the same door that Keane walks in through....

I hope the newspaper reports are wrong on the Martin Petrov deal as well. They're currently reporting that MON's interest came to late(shock!). As somebody else said we can't lose on a deal like this, Petrov is a great squad option.

PS

Completely off subject, those Nike tracksuit tops the players in the World Cup are wearing are quality. I may actually buy one if Villas are like that!!

£800,000 would be £700.000 too much in my book.  For this particular position I do wish MON would look abroad for a better and possibly cheaper model.

I like Petrov.  He has pace and guile and a good shot.  He does seem to blow a little hot and cold though.  Im not keen on Keane, sorry, but could be converted if he is a 20 goal a season player for us.  Forlorn worries me.  He is playing out of his skin for his country and I dont think he would replicate that on a sunday night in Blackpool when its pissing down.

Must be if he played base in Kajagoogoo in the 80's.

I thought he was 29 but I'm two shy...

Hush hush.

Forlan is better than Keane.

MON needs a kick in the Kajagoogoos for even considering signing Keane.

So, let me get this right, you only want us to sign "older" players if they are top drawer. Yet you also think we should sign Martin Petrov?

Yes because ..... HE'S FREE!

He's not free. He would want a fat signing on fee plus, at a guess, £30k-£50k p/w for the next few years. That's about £8m-£10m down the shitter for a left winger we dont really need.

I'd much rather pay M. Petrov a 'fat signing on fee' than give Man City (at a guess) £8m in a transfer window for him.

Like that £8m would make any difference to their bank balance!

I'm sick of us being linked with has-beens.  Robbie Keane and Martin Petrov?  I'd rather us stick with what we've got and give the youth a chance.

A lack of transfer fee doesn't mean he'll have any greater impact on the side.  I'd rather pay the £8m for someone who would improve us than get a player that won't for nothing!

Well, Petrov wouldn't be a goer as an £8m signing so its irrelevant.
We dont need him as a free signing so there would be no chance of us offering money for him.
