After a World Cup and long season for Forlan he'd have to move to a different country (albeit one he's played in before) at 31. And Joe Cole is injury prone, way past his best and was never that good anyway.

Don't get me wrong, and I'd take both at the Villa, but Modric is a better player than Cole and they'd get one season max out of Forlan, I reckon.

If they signed Berbatov and Carrick back we'd have to worry, IMO.

I wouldn't say there is much in it between them, and Modric possibly is just about the better of the 2 players. However, if given a choice I'd rather have Joe Cole than Modric.

I think I'd prefer Modric, simply because he's 24 and got years left in him.

My mistake, it appears he's now come out and said it's still possible as his mind hasn't been made up according to his agent.

I would drool over my keyboard if we were linked with players of that quality. If it meant Modric became available.....he'd be a great shout but couldn't see him leaving Spurs.

Funny that Rommedahl got a mention here....I wanted us to sign him 2002. I have always rated him very highly and for a winger he has really done well to have not burned out in the later years of his career. His quality with the ball will make up for any loss of pace.

can't see cole ending up at spurs because of his demands. likewise arsenal. citeh and manu are the only clubs in this country who could pay him what he wanted and if he took a paycut to go elsewhere then his agent's going to look a bit of a berk

It'll probably get shot down in flames but I quite like the look of Matsui from Japan. Good engine, decent crossing...I know a World Cup can make a player look good (or terrible) but in the two competitive games (and the England friendly) he's been consistent and hard-working. Plus he only plays for Grenoble so probably wouldn't cost the earth.

Maybe someone could recommend him to Money City and they could splurge 24 mil on him instead.
