Personally I think we'd be a sideways step for Arteta.

IF he was available I'm sure there would be 'bigger' clubs interested.

Once upon a time that was true. No disrespect to Everton but right now, we're a better bet for honours than they are, a better team, larger resources and we're playing in Europe (for what its worth). We can pay the wages he'd want too.
Maybe there would be bigger clubs after him, but he's not out of our reach.

We need to be targeting the players that seem a little out of our reach, as these are the ones that will significantly improve us.  Those we think that we CAN attract, probably won't.  Problem being that players such as these would also attract interst from the CL clubs and Man City, so we have to be quite good/lucky in getting the right ones in.

Arteta falls into this category.

Everton would want silly money for Arteta. Probably similar to what we want for Milner. So unless we sell Milner then I can't even see us having that sort of money available.

We'll attract players more players like Heskey, Downing, Warnock & Collins.

I'd say we're pretty much along side Everton.

They were 3 points off us last season and had a terrible start & lost key players for large periods of the season.

This is the first time we've finished above Everton since DOL took us to 6th?
