Considering he has one year left on his contract, if we paid £12m for Pienaar I'd be disgusted.

I'm not totally convinced by him either. He's a decent player on his day. Nothing better than what we have though.

To be fair, we got £12m for on of our midfielders of a similar age with one year left!

I like him and do think we need to bring A N Other wideman this summer, preferably right sided, although I wouldn't class it as a priority.  If that turns out to be Pineear I wouldn't be moaning.

Our play is only as one-dimensional as our players. I don't think you need 10 complete players, but to rely solely on Milner won't do either. Reo-Coker with a better finishing is what we need. Özil yes, Podolski and Pienaar no.

Yeah, to moneybags City for a large Premium and he was a far better player at the time.
I can think of better targets, especially at that price.

True, but if I was Everton and we DID come in for him, I'd be opening the negotiations by quoting what we got for Barry and playing him up as being just as important to them.

In which case Everton would not sell him because Pienaar isnt in the same class as Barry, was not their Captain and Villa dont have endless amounts of money to throw at it.
You're right in that they'd make it bloody hard for anybody trying to buy him. I would counter that by saying he isnt worth the effort and expense. Also that Everton dont have the finances to let players go for nothing on principal and wouldn't have the strongest bargaining position.

If he was available for a decent price, maybe. I really dont think he's that good.

Fair enough Maz - I don't think he's anything to get excited about either, but would be a decent enough addition.  I suppose another way of viewing it is Man City could afford to pay £12m for a player that age and not worry about minimal sell on value, which is something the likes of us can't do, making it less likely we'll be interested at the quoted price.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs have also been linked with him at various times this summer. If there is any truth it in then that means that they can drive the price up and I can't see us being willing to play that game.

However, I think it's just more agent fueled speculation.

I think Pinnear would be a very good buy. We need cover / replace-
        ment for Stanah. A midfiled of Milner and a Sidwell type player will
        have our ball retention suffer.  A  Sneider/ Arteta type player would
        not see enough of the ball to make a difference.                          
            I think we need 3 key players. The Playmaker, a striker who scores
        and contributes AND cover /replacement for stan. If he is injured
        (overdue) our ball retention is dependant on a sidwell / coker type.
        It does n`t  bare thinking about.   Covering  stan`s  position would be
        my first priority.

If we sell Milner and get Ireland and £25m then we should use that to get a good defensive midfielder and Diego Forlan.
